Lloyd Tells ATF His Hair Secrets…& More!

It was definitely an honor to interview Lloyd who is such a talented young artist. His album, Lessons in Love, will hit stores August 5th and Lloyd is absolutely ecstatic about the turn out. His energy, sense of humor, and intelligence was definitely brought out in this interview. Check it out to learn more about Lloyd and his other talents besides being just a great singer and performer!

 Lloyd: Martine! How you doing?

ATF: Hey! Good. How are you?

L: Lessons in Love lets start it out on a good note.

ATF: It’s been 2 yrs we’ve been all so hype about your upcoming album. How does it feel to come out with your 3rd album?

L: I’m feeling a world of emotions. Excitement, anxiety. I can feel it hear it, smell everything. It’s like a smorgasbord of emotions.

ATF: I love the Girls Around the World. But—before I get into anything else, you have to tell me what is it you put in your hair? ‘Cause it’s absolutely gorgeous!

L: *Laughs* I guess it’s like Coming to America. When Eddie Murphy goes to the barber shop and then they like-”Whatchu put on that hair, is that an ultra perm?” and then he says (in Lloyd’s impersonation of an African Accent) “Just juices and berries, just juices and berries” (laughs).

ATF: Okay so u put juices and berries up in there, huh?

L: Naw I don’t put juices and berries in my hair (he took it literally), it’s just the way I was born. I gotta Creole heritage-a good mixture of culture.

ATF: Ok, so Girls Around the World is more of like a club hit, but the name of the album is Lessons in Love. So Lessons in Love reminds me of a grown and sexy album—so how would you describe the album? Club hits? Grown n sexy? Mixture of both?

lloyd21.jpg

L: What about growing and sexy?

ATF: Okay?

L: I wouldn’t say grown because im still young and I can’t say young because then you sound too young. So I’m at a transitional stage in my life and career where I am growing with my fans who are now in college. This is where you experience love for the first time. So I’m kind of conscious of that– I’m kind of in the love convention. Young lovers that want to express what they feel, what they go through, you know mistakes and heartache, as well as happiness and joy. Lessons in love is not so much about me, it’s more so about them, it’s more about my fans and what can happen in life along the way.

ATF: What’s your favorite track on the album?

L: Party all over your body

ATF: Why is that?

L: ::Silence:: Because I want to have a Party All over Your Body. (laughs)

ATF: Ooookayyy…. So you were in a group called Tune Time back in the day. How was the transition from being in a group to going solo.

L: Umm.. the transition. You have to challenge yourself more which is something that I really enjoy. Find myself trying to be more creative and more so of saying what I wanna say but in a different way. Just being myself. Not really having that immediate support on stage from my band members is something I really miss. I enjoyed to be able to look at my members, it was encouraging and motivating. I’m all alone now.

ATF: Don’t sound so sad!

L: Well…

ATF: How is being from ATL make you into the artist you are today?

L: I’m so, so alone.

(We both laugh)

ATF: Okay, come on. (laugh)

L: I’m really alone.

ATF: I’m really going to write this on the site

L: (Lloyd is cracking up) Go ahead! Let’s make this fun!

ATF: Moving on. So, how is being from ATL make u into the artist u r today.

L: Being from the ATL, well you never know whose around the corner. I’m surrounded by talent and it’s all within a 30 mile radius from eachother. With this melting pot of the industry of most talented-it really just gives you motivation to be recognized as a talent. It’s also a blessing because it’s not as hard. Say I was from Indianapolis, Iowa, or Wisconsin, Gary, Indiana-its like in ATL people are actually listening.

ATF: Who have you worked with on the album?

L: Polo da don, some long time friends, Usher’s brother. The surprising thing is I even gave it a shot.

ATF: Yeah? How? What did you do?

L: Produced. Girls Around the World was a brain child of mine. It started out with a baseline of mine.

ATF: That’s great! Well ATF is based in nyc, tell us what you like to do when you are in NYC?

L: Hmm.. Things that make you go mmm (sidenote: lol that was random). My favorite thing about being in NY is you never know what you are gonna do. Everytime I go out I see something new and different, something that seems cool and interesting. I like to try new things everytime I’m out here. Pink Tea Cup is the most awesome soul food ever though, in SoHo. They got some real down south Soul Food. They play good music too—2pac,rap,  they be cursing up in there.

ATF: Wow I’m bout to go visit that. So, we’re bout to wrap it up-where can your fans check you out, shout out your myspace.

L: Myspace.com/lloyd (!!!)

ATF: Thank you so much for your time and we look forward to the album coming out Aug. 5th.

L: Thank you very much!

Llloyd is so sexy and fine and can sing like an angel. I sho wish I could get my hands up in that long good silky azzed hair. It don’t make no sense for a guy to be that fine and have that long good grade of hair I have to buy from the Koreans.
