Zodiac Sign: Cancer

The Urban Blogger  is a website has allowed us, not only, stumble upon other great websites, but also to meet and network with a lot of other great minded people.   We stumbled across Dwayne’s site,  The Fly Guy Chronicles, and I have been hooked ever since.  Its great to know that the guy behind this great site is a great, individual as well. Let’s get to know more about DeWayne…

1.) Tell us a little bit about yourself and what it is you do for a living:
I’m the entertainment editor for Rolling Out Magazine, which is a national lifestyle weekly. Outside of my work with RO, a large majority of my time is devoted to my love advice brand, The Fly Guy Chronicles.

2.) How did you get started in your career?

For the past 6 years, I’ve owned a creative boutique called The Crystal Clear Agency. Through that vehicle, I offered creative/professional writing services for different corporations and magazine outlets. My position at Rolling Out was birthed from that.

But the Fly Guy Chronicles was created out of necessity. I’ve always believed that an honest male perspective was needed in today’s discussion on love and relationships. So I wanted to help fill that void.

(Note to my publicist: Thanks for the email this morning filled with those inspirational Fly Guy bullet points you wanted me to sprinkle into this interview.)

I’m actually a huge fan of love. But I know there are a lot of people, both men and women, who are fed up with the dating world. I hope that I can help change their jaded perspective.
3.) Are you single or taken?
I’m single
4.) If you were about to go on a blind date, and you had to describe yourself to that person, what would you tell them?
I probably wouldn’t tell them anything. I’d just allow them to make their own determinations about me. I hate talking about myself in that way, and would prefer my actions to speak for me.
5.) Describe your ideal woman:

Ambitious. To me, that’s the sexiest quality that a woman can possess… besides nice teeth …and a great smile …oh, and a body that won’t quit. (Wait, can I rethink my answer?)

All jokes aside though, my ideal woman is comfortable with who she is … flaws and all. She strives to be the best that she can be every day, but also doesn’t take herself too seriously.

6.) We’re sure that you get approached a lot by women. What is the craziest thing that a woman has done to get your attention?

I host a lot of events, and on this particular occasion I was the emcee for a gospel concert. Well, shortly after the concert was over, I was trying to duck out to catch the tail end of the Lakers game. As I was peeling out of the parking lot, something hit my windshield. I kid you not; this girl threw her bible at my car to get me to stop. I’m 99.9% sure that God was unhappy with how she used the Good Book that day.

Shameless Plug #1: She might have been better served by following my 4 Keys To Asking A Guy Out On A Date.

7.) What is the quickest way for a woman to get dismissed by you?
There are a few things. These are in no particular order.

1. No goals

2. An unbalanced baby to baby-daddy ratio (4:3, as in 4 babies to 3 baby daddies)

3. Hammer toes

4. An unhealthy obsession with things that aren’t all that important. (i.e. Zane books or reruns of “Living Single”)

But if I had to choose just one, it would be a woman with no goals or vision for her life.

8.) What is something that no one knows about you?
That once upon a time, I wanted to be a singer and lost to Lyfe Jennings in the finals on “Showtime At The Apollo.”

For the people who did know that, they probably don’t know that I’m still salty about losing to him.

9.) What do you do to chill out and relax?

I like discovering new restaurants and lounges to hang out. I’m not a big club personal, so in my free time, I’m always searching for unique nightlife alternatives. Other than that, I enjoy a good movie, an even better book, and gourmet Fruity Pebbles or Corn Pops. (FYI…eating cereal in a really nice bowl makes it gourmet.)

10.) Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Honestly, I just see myself being the best DeWayne that I can be. I can make plans all day, but if that’s not where God wants me to be, then it’s all destined to fail. He and I have a pretty good relationship, so I’m just staying open to where He wants to lead me in my life and career. I will say this though; I plan on working extremely hard to make sure that the world experiences me and the fullness of my talents.

11.) Any closing words, shout outs, etc.?

Shout outs? Well outside of me using this opportunity to insert shameless plug # 2 right here: www.flyguychronicles.com, there is one set of people that I would like to shout out. To every woman who has convinced herself that there are no good single black men left in this world, I’m here to tell you that we’re alive and kicking. And we’re coming to a city near you real soon. (Well not exactly, but hopefully you get the point.)
