I was marveled last night at how beautiful Jennifer Hudson sounded at the Super Bowl last night. I was also shocked that she didn’t break down because of the hardships she’s encountered overthe past couple of months. Searching for the video of Jennifer Hudson singing the National Anthem, I came across an article only to find out that Hudson was not singing live
she was in fact lip synching over a previously recorded track:
“This was such an important performance, because it’s the first time everyone has seen Jennifer. But she’s in such a great place, with such great spirits, and time can heal her wounds. She’s on fire right now and totally grounded.”
This statement was released by the show’s producer, “American Idol” music director Ricky Minor.
Minor described Hudson as being very calm and prepared for her performance. While many artists try to reach for the Houston standard on the huge Super Bowl stage, he said Hudson’s soaring take was more personal than patriotic.
“She’s from the church,” Minor said. “So we wanted to give it a gospel feel, use a little organ, rhythm and really give it a feel that matched Jennifer. We wanted her to emote the lyrics and connect with the song.”
After the performance, Minor said Hudson returned to the dressing room and anxiously asked him, “How did I do?”

The track is prerecorded but I believe the vocals are live.
Whitney Houston also lip-synched her classic rendition. Beyonce did as well. I think that is more for the technical issues rather then their voice at the time. Don’t want the mic cutting off and all that. Its not like someone else sang for her though and she still did well.
People don’t realize that the performers are lip-synching at all these major events; it’s a pre-requisite to doing the shows. You couldn’t get such clear sound out there in a stadium full of people.
I say, who cares? It’s not like she’s singing along to someone else’s voice. She had to sing it in the first place and I’m sure she’d be able to stand up and sing it LIVE just as well as she did in the studio; she’s a professional with a God-given talent.
I heard that Faith Hill lip-synched as well.
Hudson’s performance (lip-sinched or not) was one of the best parts of the Super Bowl — second to the ads of course
I think everyone lip synches at sporting events like this. It was still a very beautiful and powerful rendition of the national anthem.

I thought it was a great idea considering to hardship she has had. That way if is broke down it wouldnt have been so emotional that she couldnt finish the song. It was moving and beautiful. People do this all the time. Atleast it was her voice and not someone elses. People can be so judgemental and inconsiderate.

I don’t care, she has had a rough time as of late. Let her be, I couldn’t even keep the tears back watching her. Imagine what she is feeling, most people get family together to watch the Super Bolw. let it go!
