Ashanti To Play Dorothy In “The Wiz”

Ashanti will be easing on down the yellow brick road. She’s making her theatrical debut as Dorothy in the revival of “The Wiz“, the urbanized version of “The Wizard Of Oz“. The musical will run from June 12th through July 5th at the New York City Center as part of its “Encores! Summer Stars” series. Visit NYCityCenter.org for more information.

    WTF! Syesha, are you kidding me!? Even Simon could see through her. Why ppl think Syesha is great is beyond me. Keep in mind, the producers were looking for someone who can play a 15-year-old. Ashanti is no Stephanie Mills, but she’s still a very good choice.

    Nene, I respect your difference of opinion. I just think Syesha sucks. I personally don’t care for her vapid style of singing. You won’t agree, but I totally see what Simon says when he told her she was very limited. I feel the same way about riff-happy Beyonce, although I’d take her any day over Syesha. To me, someone like Stephanie Mills is a great singer.
