Singer/Actress Jennifer Hudson will return to the big screen as Winnie Mandela in the movie Winnie. Winnie Mandela was Nelson Mandela’s wife when he became President of South Africa in 1994, but they separated two years later when rumors were going around that she had cheated on Nelson after he came out of prison. She is currently a South African politician. The movie should start production May 30th in the South African locations of Johannesburg, Cape Town, and the Transkei and Robben Island. Jennifer Hudson had this to say:
“I was compelled and moved when I read the script,” Hudson said. “Winnie Mandela is a complex and extraordinary woman and I’m honored to be the actress asked to portray her. This is a powerful part of history that should be told.”
