The 2009 American Music Awards were horrible! We know that is harsh, but after every performance we wanted to turn the channel. This show was so hyped up and we expected to be blown away. If you had a hit in the 90’s or early 2000’s, you were on the stage to perform.  It was the night of comebacks.

Artist such as Jennifer Lopez, Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston, Rihanna, and Eminem all had big comeback performances which were definitely “underwhelming”.  Rihanna definitely disappointed, and we were expecting so much more. Who ever told this girl she can command a stage solo needs to be fired.  Jennifer Lopez was right behind her after busting her ass off a human staircase.

Jay-Z was probably the highlight of the night. He just sticks to what he knows and gives a good performance. Alicia Keys can go though, and call Bridget Kelly. Check for photos, and performance footage after the jump..

The show opened with the legendary Janet Jackson hitting the stage for an 8 minute performance. First of all, that was not the same Janet from the 90’s that hit the stage.  She tried, but her movements definitely didn’t seem as fluid as they used to be.  She did kill it on some parts though, considering that she is getting up there!

Janet Jackson Performance:

The two best sets of the night was Lady Gaga & Jay-Z. These two artist know how to rock a crowd and command an audience. Hov performed “Empire State of Mind” with Alicia Keys, who almost looked as though she was going to slip and fall in those heels.

Jay-Z & Alicia Keys Performance:

Lady Gaga killed with a hype performance of “Bad Romance“, then she turned goth on us with a performance of “Speechless“. Both records are off her “The Fame Monster” album, which is really dope. This girl can sing, dance, and work a stage. It’s hard to find true artist out here these days, but she damn sure is one.

Lady GaGa performance:

Rihanna, Rihanna, Rihanna…SMH. There is nothing really to say about the worst performance of the night. This girl let’s us down time and time again. How do you comeback after a year of retirement with that crap? She had no energy and she should start lip syncing. She looked cute though, those shoulder pads were sick!

Rihanna Performance:

Okay Jennifer Lopez gave it a good try. Jenny from the block really should go back to the Bronx and get her swag back though. She was known for killing a routine, but now she is going to be known for busting her behind now. J.Lo didn’t just trip off the human staircase, she fell on her behind. She played it off very well, but ouch!

Jennifer Lopez Performance:

Overall the show sucked and we were disappointed.  For the AMAs to be such a highly anticipated event, it sure was lacking in the entertainment areas. Whitney Houston looked great but pregnant and was pretending to be Debra Wilson of Mad TV. Alicia Keys can’t even two step in heels. Shakira trying to be the latin Beyonce, she did her version of “Single Ladies” at the VMAs. Timbaland needs to just produce records and hit the gym.

Every artist that performed or attended the AMAs this year, should really regret their decision.  They were not on their A Game.
