52nd Annual Grammy Award Performances

From Lady Gaga and Elton John’s surprising duet, Beyoncé’s army of male dancers, to a ground breaking 3-D tribute to Michael Jackson, the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards were definitely something to remember. The Grammys have been lacking for the past couple years, but last night kept us entertained from start to finish.

Our favorite performances hands down were from Beyonce, and Maxwell. They were both vocally amazing! They both picked up awards as well, which was much deserved. (Beyonce broke the record for the most Grammy awards won in a single night by a female artist, taking 6 out of 10.)

Janet Jackson Speaks on Her Love for New York in Gotham Magazine

Janet Jackson covers the latest issue of Gotham Magazine, and speaks on her new album, a new book and more. Not only that, she also expresses her love for New York City:

Everything. I love the energy–the creative energy. I’ve been here for 12 years and I will be here for the rest of my life.

Janet, who has had to deal with weight and confidence issues recently, also speaks on her new personal book:

I hope it’s inspiring for all ages. I’m talking about weight loss, confidence, self-esteem—especially in your youth. It’s not an autobiography, but there are little anecdotes that I give here and there from my childhood all the way to the present that I thought would be interesting and helpful to share.

The Top 10 NYC Events of the Year!

This was a great year, and in New York, that also means that there were a lot of great parties! Here is a re-cap of some of the best events of 2009 (In no particular order):

1.) Belvedere Black Raspberry Launch ft. Estelle and held at a SOHO pop up store:

This event is included because of the atmosphere, the beautiful, fashionable crowd, the complimentary drinks, and fact that Estelle was walking around mingling with the crowd.

We caught up with her during the event and got a quick interview.

2.) Roc4Life.com Launch Party

With Grey Goose flowing, a fun photo booth provided by Polite in Public, and good people, this event was definitely one to remember.

3.) The Hennessy Black Launch Party featuring Swizz Beatz and The Jabawockeez

With Hennessy Black on deck all night, celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Fabolous, and a special performance by Swizz Beatz and the Jabawockeez, this event was easily one of the best of the year.

4.) Flud Watches Spring/Summer Launch @ Velour

The Digital Glam Squad put on a great event for Flud Watches, a hip, new hip hop inspired watch line. Notable NYC bloggers and press were in attendance, and patrons even left with free watches!

5.) G Shock “Shock the World” Event featuring Kanye West

The A-Listers were out on the town that night for an exclusive event with G-Shock watches and a performance by the one and only Kanye West.

6.) Necole Bitchie’s Birthday Celebration

Our blogger pal, Necole Bitchie, had a celebrity and “web celebrity” filled birthday party at Taj. We danced the night away and got to mingle with some young, bright stars such as Day 26, Teyana Taylor and Mario.

7.) Rocawear 10th Anniversary Party
Jay-Z and Beyonce were among several other celebs such as Melody Thornton (Pussycat Dolls), Derek Blanks (Celebrity Photographer), Actor, Brian White, Laurie Ann Gibson and more, who celebrated 10 years with the Rocawear brand.

8.) Long Live The King! Q-tip’s Tribute to MJ at the Nokia Theatre

Q-Tip, Mark Ronson, and DJ Spinna were on the 1s and 2s for this great Michael Jackson tribute party at the Nokia Theatre in Times Square. Celebs in the building included Solange Knowles, Angie Martinez and more.

Check out singer/songwriter Marsha Ambrosius on stage performing the hit that she wrote for Michael Jackson, “Butterflies”.

9.) The Hennessy Artistry 2009 Series Finale in NYC

Some of hip hop’s biggest names, including Common, Q-Tip, The Roots, and even the legendary Queen Latifah hit the stage in honor or Hennessy Artistry.

10.) Heineken Red Star Soul Tour ft. Ludacris, Estelle, Wale & Nas

Estelle, Wale and Ludacris hit the stage for free performances in honor of the Heineken Red Star tour. This event was particularly special, because Nas was a surprise guest.

Video: Chris Brown Performs an MJ Tribute During “Fan Appreciation” Concert

Last night in NYC, Chris Brown and The New Boyz’s “Fan Appreciation Tour” touched down at the Nokia Theatre in Times Square. After the concert, Chris headed to Greenhouse, where an official after-party was held.

Chris Brown: “The BET Awards was horrible!”

Chris Brown spoke very openly to Vibe Magazine about some topics that we all were curious about. Chris shared his true feelings about how he felt last year BET Awards, when they honored Michael Jackson.

It was wack. I’ll keep it a hundred. The BET Awards was horrible. I was watching it, holding my face like, “Oh my God, this is wack.” I didn’t get it. Michael Jackson was such a big entertainer. And I’m not dissing any of the artists who did the songs. But I was expecting a lot more of energy for Michael. And BET Awards usually comes hard. I was exepecting them to have Usher, Omarion and even Justin. And I was expecting Ne-Yo to sance. They were so bent on getting me there that they messed up their own show.

We gotta agree with Breezy. BET could have come a lot harder with their MJ Tribute.

There are so many things we want to say about the above photo, but we’ll keep the comments to a minimum.

Last night, Ice-T, Coco, Russell Simmons, Russell’s girlfriend Julie, and more attending the “Michael Jackson: This is It” premiere at Regal E-Walk Cinemas.

Not only did Spike Lee also attend with his kids, but actress/dancer, Rosie Perez came out of hiding as well.

Event Recap: Power 105.1 Powerhouse 2009

Let’s just start out by saying WOW! Last night, ATF (Ian Jarrell) attended Powerhouse 2009 hosted by NYC’s Power 105.1. The show included performances by Trey Songz, The Dream, Keri Hilson, and many more.

However, the man of the night was none other then Chris Brown, and this man proved why people was looking at him as the next Michael Jackson. Chris shut the show down as soon as he hit the stage. Saying this boy is amazingly talented would seriously be an understatement.

With the lack of buzz for this years Powerhouse, Power 105.1 still pulled off a good show and turnout. The first performers to hit the stage was Day26 of course. We didn’t get to see them perform but we heard they ripped the stage. Are they in the studio recording yet? We need to hear some new stuff from them.

The next up to show he still has it was Mario. We are so pleased to see he has grown his hair out. That whole bald head just wasn’t doing it for us. You can’t deny the boy has vocal skills, but as a performer he kind of lacks. His performance was overshadowed by his surprised guest which included Jim Jones and Red Cafe. He was really just trying to show NYC some love, and that is always good.

Miss Keri Babbbyyy….FAIL! All we can say is this woman needs to work on her vocals and stage performance a little more. If you want to dance please know how to. We love some of her songs, but she just ruins them when she sings them live. Keri Hilson is a talented fab female, she just lacks in certain areas; and those are some BIG areas.

The token rapper of the night was of course Fabolous. His set was just not the business for us. We love his new album so we expected so much more. Fab remained a typical rapper throughout the entire performance; pacing back and forth with no personality…FAIL! We still got love for Fab though.

On to the next one…On of our personal favs, Trey Songz, was the truly one of the crowds favorites as well. This man had “panties dropping” left and right. He sung hit after hit, but he didnt perform any of his classics from his first album, “Gotta Make It”. People don’t realize this man has been around for years, we are happy to see all the recognition he is getting lately.

The Dream was the next performer to grace the stage. We weren’t that hype to see him, but The Dream does have some bangs in his musical roster. He performed everything from “Rockin That Thang” to “Falsetto“. The best part about his performance was his dancer, them girls killed every move to every song. They kept our attention way more then The Dream.

Now for the star of the night! Chris Brown is the Prince of Pop, yes we know that’s a big title. But this kid is hands down the best male performer of today. he may not have the crazy vocals, but he can hold a note. There is no other male artist touching this boy on dancing. He was partially the reason that stadium was filled.

Chris Brown’s big comeback has been talked about for awhile, nobody really knew when it was gonna happen. he picked the perfect radio station and the best city to make it all happen. Chris Brown is back so either will deal with it or move right along.

Beyonce’s Actions: Publicity Stunt or Heart Felt??

Beyonce is still performing her behind off on the Australian leg of her I Am..Tour. She recently touched down in Sydney to perform a show for her overseas stans. During the show Mrs.Carter brought a young girl who is suffering from Leukemia onto the stage. Bey then proceeded to sing “Halo” to the little girl, with a image of Michael Jackson in the background. This move left the crowd of Aussies in tears.

But the question does come up, is Beyonce really that sweet? This happens right after the whole “Taylor Swift Saga“, which left fans wondering. We are big fans of Beyonce, but come girl are you trying to be America’s Sweetheart?

New Clip from MJ’s “This Is It” Rehearsal

Last week the VMA’s aired the full trailer for the upcoming film documenting MJ’s last days as he rehearsed for the “This is It” tour. This weekend a new clip of Michael Jackson performing “Human Nature” live hit the internet—and this video would give any true MJ fan chills up and down their spine. This song was a huge hit back in the day, and to our surprise Jackson sounded absolutely great.

The movie will be in theaters on October 28th for only two weeks! Now you know it’s going to be a frenzy when fans try to purchase these tickets.
