Actor Apologizes to Canadians About President Donald Trump

Actor Robert De Niro has always had a tough guy image, and ever since Donald Trump won the 2016 presidential election, the actor has been letting that side of him loose. The Academy award-winning actor has been extremely critical of President Trump, and has used very blunt language to state how he feels about the Commander In Chief.

This week, he slammed Trump after the summit meeting in Canada, then turned to Canadians to apologize.

De Niro said during the 2016 election that, if Trump won, he would move to Italy. The town where the Italian-American actor's grandparents came from actually offered him refuge, but De Niro never ended up leaving after Trump took the oath of office. Instead, he opted to be part of the resistance.

On Monday, De Niro apologized to the entire country of Canada for Trump's behavior last weekend. The sheepish actor was in Toronto for the launch of his new restaurant Canadian Nobu restaurant. He told the country, "I just want to make a note of apology for the idiotic behavior of my president... It's a disgrace. And I apologize to [Canadian Prime Minister] Justin Trudeau and the other people at the G7. It's disgusting."

De Niro was referring to Trump's behavior at the G7 summit meeting that left many Americans embarrassed. Trump arrived late to the meetings, he tried to get Russia back in on the summits after the country had been kicked out for invading Ukraine and Crimea in 2014, and he attacked Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Twitter after he left the country.

The attack was in response to Trudeau giving interviews after the meeting, calling the U.S. Tarrifs 'kind of insulting'. Apparently, during the meeting, Trump didn't realize the Canadian politician had any problem with them. He left thinking everything was wonderful, and took Trudeau's criticism as a personal slap in the face. It seems whenever someone dents Trump’s ego, his first instinct is to jump on Twitter and insult them.

PM Justin Trudeau of Canada acted so meek and mild during our @G7 meetings only to give a news conference after I left saying that, 'US Tariffs were kind of insulting' and he 'will not be pushed around,'" Trump wrote in his Twitter rant. "Very dishonest & weak. Our Tariffs are in response to his of 270% on dairy!"

Di Niro has been on his own rant ever since, slamming Trump. When the actor appeared at the Tony Awards on Sunday, his speech got very political, and very hostile. He had to be bleeped out.

Di Niro was there to introduce a performance by Bruce Springsteen when he raised his fists in the air and shouted, "First, I wanna say, 'f--k Trump,'" De Niro said. "It's no longer 'Down with Trump,' it's 'f--k Trump.'"

It's not the first time De Niro lost his cool at an awards show when blasting the president. "Our baby-in-chief, the j--koff-in-chief, I call him, has put the press under siege, ridiculing it and trying to discredit it through outrageous attacks and lies," he once said at the National Board of Review Annual Awards Gala. "This f--king idiot is the president. It's The Emperor's New Clothes. The guy is a f--king fool."
