Former President Obama Meeting With Potential Democratic Party 2020 Presidential Candidates

A number of people from the Democratic Party are looking to throw their hats into the ring to go against President Donald Trump in 2020. Former President Barack Obama has been reportedly meeting with potential candidates. After the party floundered in the last election, Obama is working to help the party regroup.

Several media outlets have reported that Obama has been asked by his party to discuss their position in the next presidential election. Politico notes Obama is trying to help party leaders come to a consensus on 'what the party should be focused on, and what would be distractions'.

CNN also reports that an insider claims that party members are seeking Obama's advice on how they should proceed in the Trump era. Thus far, Obama has met with several potential candidates.

One potential is former Vice President Joe Biden. Many wished Biden would have run in the 2016 election, but the grieving father had just lost his son Beau Biden to brain cancer and he decided to sit out the grueling primaries.

Another person Obama met with was Sen. Bernie Sanders, who ran against Hillary Clinton in the 2016 primaries. Sanders gave Clinton a run for her money, and some believe that he was railroaded by the party in favor of Clinton. Sanders has been addressing his failings in his campaign strategies and seems to be gearing up for another run.

Obama has also met with Sen. Elizabeth Warren twice now. Warren has been publicly slamming Obama for his $400,000 Wall Street speeches.

"I was troubled by that," Warren said in an interview with 'Alter Family Politics' on SiriusXM. "I talk about in the book is the influence of money. I describe it as a snake that slithers through Washington."

According to CNN, has also met with Sen. Corey Booker (NJ-D), who looks like he might be a favorite for 2020. Bookers voice really rang out above the masses at the 2016 Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, and the 49-year-old senator is a crowd favorite.

Obama also met with several mayors, former Attorney General Eric Holder, former Missouri Secretary of State Jason Kander and Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick. A number of other potential candidates, such as Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (NY-D) and Sen. kamala Harris (CA-D) have not met with Obama yet.

"He has been very clear about the need for the Democratic Party to rebuild and part of that is lifting up the next generation of leaders," said one anonymous source to CNN. "So if people want advice or a gut check or just to come in and look at the challenges we face, he is happy to do that."

In early polls, Joe Biden appears to be the frontrunner with voters. The party doesn't appear to be in any rush to put all their eggs in one candidate's basket, though. Democrats were bulldozed over in 2016 and seem to be on shaky ground for 2018, and even attempts at campaign slogans have been met with exasperated sighs from voters.

“I want to see a wide-open a process where there are no front-runners,” Jim Manley, one Democratic strategist. “The idea that anyone is out there pushing for one person or another is a mistake.”
