Meghan Markle Dishes On Her Daily Diet — No Wonder She Looks Great

Ever since Meghan Markle became engaged to Prince Harry, people cannot get enough information about her. She already had a huge fan base before becoming engaged to the prince, but now that she's going to be royalty — and on her own terms — she's become a huge inspiration to people around the world.

One thing people wanted to know was how the actress always stayed so trim and slim. She recently shared the secret to her success with 'Today'.

According to Markle, she owes her gorgeous figure to her snack 'trifecta'. Her go-to snacks are crackers, carrots and hummus.

"I love hummus,” she said. “In fact, I love garbanzo beans in any iteration, but for the purpose of this article let’s stick to hummus.”

“I like to assemble a small plate of crackers (like Mary’s Gone Crackers gluten-free herb crackers), hummus (try to make it yourself; it’s so easy) and some baby carrots. This sounds so simple, but, truly, it satisfies so many senses — the savory taste, the textural crunch, the unctuousness of the hummus.”

Markle is right on the money — hummus can be super-healthy, and it is incredibly easy to whip up a batch. All you need is to throw garbanzo beans or chickpeas into a blender with some tahini (sesame paste) and flavorings.

If you like, you can add a splash of olive oil. If you prefer to keep it lighter, nix the oil and just add water or broth. Hummus is full of fiber, antioxidants and protein, but can be low on calories. When you make it yourself you get to control the fat content.

Hummus makes a great dip for low-fat or low-carb crackers and tortilla chips, but you can get an even healthier boost out of it by pairing it with raw veggies. You can also use hummus as a spread for a sandwich on some sprouted wheat bread for a healthy lunch, or thin it out and use it on meat or veggies instead of fattening sauces.

Markle told Shape magazine in an interview once that there should be a mind-body connection when you choose your diet.   “I definitely just try to avoid the things that I know are going to make me feel lethargic or sluggish,” she said.

She prefers to fill her plate with things that fuel her rather than slow her down. Same goes with drinks. The California girl says she prefers a nutritious green juice as a pick me up over coffee or tea, which in the long run can make you feel worse.

When she does like to splurge, she says she’ll go for a burger. However, she notes there are always ways to make it healthier, such as baking the fries.

Markle says running is also her favorite way to keep in shape. Not only does it burn off the calories, but it also gives her a chance to clear her head.  

There are two secrets to Markle’s fantastic skin and hair: keep hydrated, and slather on the coconut oil. Coconut oil is not only a great, natural moisturizer, but it will deep condition your hair and keep it healthy and shiny.
