President's Driver Suing For Unpaid Overtime

A man who drove Donald Trump around for 25 years says that the president failed to pay him for thousands of hours in overtime. He also claims that when Trump raised his salary, he cancelled his health insurance. The man can only sue for unpaid wages for as far back as six years, but that alone could amount to a sizeable amount.

Before Trump was president, Noel Cintron worked as a personal driver to the billionaire businessman and reality star. According to Cintron, Trump paid him a flat salary and never paid him for overtime in all that time. He's now suing the president for 3,300 hours of overtime wages.

Cintron claims he was required to be at the Trump family's beck and call starting at 7 am every day. His day ended when the family didn't need him anymore. He claims he worked approximately 55 hours per week, but that Trump never paid him for working over 40. He is accusing Trump for violating the Fair Labor Standards Act and multiple violations of New York State labor law.

The driver also claims that Trump only gave him a pay raise twice in all those years. Cintron earned a fixed salary of $62,700 per year until 2006, at which point he was bumped up to $68,000. In 2010, Trump raised his salary to $75,000 per year, but the raise came at a cost-- he had to relinquish his health care benefits. This saved Mr. Trump over $17,000 per year in premiums.

In addition, Cintron alleges that trump failed to pay for accrued vacation time, sick days and the driver's expenses while performing his job duties.

“In an utterly callous display of unwarranted privilege and entitlement and without even a minimal sense of noblesse oblige,” read the complaint that was filed. "President Trump’s further callousness and cupidity is further demonstrated by the fact that while he is purportedly a billionaire, he has not given his personal driver a meaningful raise in over 12 years!"

Cintron can only sue the president for back wages for the past six years, which amounts to approximately $200,000. The statute of limitations has run out on any unpaid overtime prior to that.

The 59-year-old driver is a registered Republican, but that's not stopping him from going after the Republican president. He began working for the Trump organization 30 years ago, eventually working his way up to being offered the job as personal driver to Mr. Trump. Once Trump was elected president, the Secret Service took over the duties, but Cintron still works for the Trump organization.

"It's truly disgraceful that Trump's longstanding and faithful employee had to resort to litigation to address the fact that he is being exploited and denied his fair wages," said Larry Hutcher, the driver's attorney. "However, this type of conduct is shameful from the president who claims to represent the working people of our great nation."

Cintron isn't the first person to accuse Trump of stiffing him. While Trump has promised to protect the jobs of Americans, he has allegedly also failed to pay ordinary American workers who he has hired or contracted over the years. According to USA Today, some 3,500 lawsuits have been filed against Trump over the last 30 years by people claiming he refused to pay them.
