After Trump's 'Very Historic' Flub, Actor Rob Lowe Mocks Him With 'West Wing' Clip

President Donald Trump seems to always be putting his foot in his mouth. We're not just talking about the baffling 'covfefe' comment, or the "did he just say 'bigly'?" debates. Trump's use of the English language tends to be very creative, and not nearly as polished as those who have come before him.

After a recent grammar goof, actor Rob Lowe sent a tweet in an attempt to enlighten the POTUS.

President Trump gave a speech on Wednesday in Missouri about his tax bill. He bragged during his speech that his administration was 'very historic'.

Lowe, who played the president's speechwriter on 'The West Wing', didn't miss a beat after that. He quickly sent out a tweet saying, "President Trump just used the phrase 'very historic.' I seem to recall another president who poked some serious fun at that choice of words."

Lowe was referring to the season two episode of 'The West Wing' in which President Jeb Bartlett is rehearsing a speech for a live broadcast. The fictional Democratic president reads off a teleprompter, "We have a very unique opportunity to take part live in an extremely historic event."

The president of the show then stops in his tracks and demands to know who wrote the speech. When the culprit raises his hand, Bartlett explains, "Unique means one of a kind. Something can't be 'very unique.' Nor can it be 'extremely historic."

Bartlett then calls on Lowe's character, speechwriter Sam Seaborn, to make the corrections.

It seems Trump must not have been a huge fan of 'The West Wing' or he might have saved himself the embarrassment. It's too bad; Trump could have taken some pointers from the show's Commander in Chief, brilliantly portrayed by actor Martin Sheen.

Lowe's tweet cued up a lot of fantasies from people wishing the country were headed in a different direction. In these fantasies, Jeb Bartlett is real, and he ushers in an era of progressive politics in which everyone in positions of power is compassionate, concerned with the greater good, and rattle off eloquent speeches whenever they open their mouths making us feel like we’re in good hands.

It would be so nice to have a president correcting mistakes rather than making them.

In the very same speech, Trump admitted that he only found out two days earlier that the historic (not very - just historic) Lewis and Clark expedition began in Missouri.

"Trump just said he didn't know that Lewis and Clark started their trek west in Missouri until 2 days ago. #OnTheDayTrumpResigns we will pass a law that says future presidents have to pass 7th-grade history before taking office," tweeted March for Truth organizer and activist Holly O'Reilly.

Rob Lowe and 'The West Wing' has gotten a little backlash

Maybe 'The West Wing' isn't the best examples to trot out when Trump makes a faux pas in his speeches. Some have lashed out at the show for displaying unprecedented levels of 'liberal smugness', which is part of the problem that paved the way to a candidate like Trump.
