Harvey Weinstein Blames Sex Scandal On 'Right-Wing Conspiracy' - Celebrities Speak Out In Support Of Victims

Film producer and co-founder of Miramax films Harvey Weinstein recently suffered a major blow to his reputation after allegations of inappropriate sexual behavior came to light. The Hollywood liberal is looking for someone to back him up, so he's blaming the ordeal on Republicans. According to Weinstein's latest excuse, there is a vast right-wing conspiracy aimed at taking him down.

Weinstein had friends in high places, including former Democratic party presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and a number of celebrities. Many are quietly turning their back on the film industry mogul after it was revealed that the Oscar winner quietly settled at least eight sexual harassment suits with women.

According to reports, Weinstein asked Oscar-winning actress Ashley Judd to watch him shower. He also offered Rose McGowan a $100,000 settlement in an incident that occurred shortly before the actress appeared in 'Scream' in her breakthrough roll.

"Harvey feels is being set up by a team of people who are out to get him," a source close to Weinstein told the Daily Mail. "There are conservative organizations who know he is a long-time foe of the NRA, of Donald Trump, and a longtime supporter of Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and the Democrats."

"[Weinstein] believes they are financing a team of lawyers who are digging up these stories," the source continued. "There's a political agenda behind this. Harvey feels it's a conspiracy and that's the most interesting part of this, where it originated from, not the erroneous reporting that's going on. He won't be the last, other people like him will be targeted too."

Harvey has gone back and forth between confirming and denying allegations. He at one point told the New York Times, "The way I've behaved with colleagues in the past has caused a lot of pain, and I sincerely apologize for it."

Shortly after, he threatened to sue the same newspaper for digging up the dirt on him, claiming that some of the evidence came from private records.

Some people in Hollywood have come forward, but not in Weinstein's defense. They've come forward to support the victims.

"As always, I stand with the brave survivors of sexual assault and harassment. It's not your fault. I believe you," actress Brie Larson tweeted.

"Wealthy people buy silence with settlements. The confidentiality clause allows predators to hurt other people. For decades," writes director and actor Judd Apatow. "People with money pay off the people they hurt. Like Trump did with Trump U and like Cosby. If you accept the cash they keep doing it."

"The women who chose to speak about their experience of harassment by Harvey Weinstein deserve our awe. It's not fun or easy. It's brave," tweeted Lena Dunham.

"I expect the Hollywood elite will remain largely silent about Weinstein. Me, I give zero f--ks about any repercussions for condemning him," tweeted filmmaker Scott Dickerson.

Actress Heather Matarazzo went off on a series of tweets, saying, "Women, myself included, would be much more ready to call out their experiences in this industry if we knew that we would be taken care of... But we don't. If we knew that men/women in the industry who claim to be 'feminists' and are in positions of power would guarantee that they wouldn't shut their doors, and in fact would open them even wider who are willing to speak their truth."
