Ivanka Offers Up Kind Words For Oprah, Immediately Receives Backlash

Oprah Winfrey delivered an incredibly passionate speech at Sunday night’s Golden Globes awards, and it seemed to be the only thing that people wanted to talk about the following day. There were a ton of suggestions that the speech amounted to Winfrey’s coming out party as a serious presidential contender, and the buzz that suggested she just might run in 2020 was palpable.

While she has previously denied having any interest in the highest office in the land, there were plenty of whispers that she’s at least considering it.

We’ll have to wait and see how that all plays out, but Winfrey received a ton of praise for her efforts regardless. She seemed to hit all of the right notes, and many users on social media commented how inspired they were about the whole thing.

As the Daily Mail shares, we can include Ivanka Trump in that category. The First Daughter took to social media to offer up her thoughts.

“Just saw @Oprah's empowering & inspiring speech at last night’s #GoldenGlobes. Let’s all come together, women & men, & say #TIMESUP!” she wrote.

Unfortunately for Ivanka, her post didn’t go over all that well in the minds of many. A number of other famous faces responded by throwing cold water on Ivanka’s praise for what Winfrey had to say.

“We are all coming together, but not with you, you terrible terrible puppet. You can’t stand with him and stand with people who do good for this country," wrote Chelsea Handler.

"Go take a spin class,” she said.

It’s at least a little ironic that Ivanka was attempting to spread a message about people coming together and the most insightful remark that Handler can come up with is one that is at a minimum mean-spirited. In fact, it’s not a stretch to suggest that Handler’s comments were downright off-putting and divisive.

In fairness to Handler, she was far from the only celeb that piled on.

“This is the most hypocritical, clueless statement in her regrettable time in the WH. Your father has a trail of victims and supported Roy Moore, Ivanka," said blogger Jennifer Rubin.

"YOU are indeed part of the problem Ivanka. #complicit."

“Great! You can make a lofty donation to the Time's Up Legal Defense Fund that is available to support your father's accusers,” wrote actress Alyssa Milano.

Rubin’s comment was a bit on the mean-spirited side as well, but at least Milano stuck to the specific reasons why she took umbrage with what Ivanka had to say. In any event, was any of the shade thrown in her direction really necessary in this case?

If we flash back to what Winfrey actually had to say, she was advancing a message of togetherness and whatnot. Ivanka expanded on that thought, and she was hit with a number of replies that indicated she wasn’t welcome in the sandbox.

We get it, many of those that threw shade in her direction don’t care for her or the fact that her father is the President of the United States. But do either of those pieces of information make it ok to treat her with bullying behavior that has absolutely no place in today’s day and age?

There’s plenty of food for thought in there, and those that consistently rail about anything and everything may want to take a gander in the mirror to see if they’re holding themselves to the same standard they expect everyone else to have.
