Jessica Simpson Hammered On Social Media For Letting Five-Year-Old Daughter Try On Lipstick

Jessica Simpson leads a very busy life as a mom and a professional in the entertainment industry. She also enjoys activities such as eating out at fancy restaurants and shopping that lead some people to criticize her parenting choices.

Simpson was slammed by a number of people a year or so ago when she posted a pic of her five-year-old daughter, Maxwell, wearing a bathing suit. She has also faced heavy criticism for dying her young daughter's hair on a whim.

Earlier this week, the mother-daughter pair were seen having a fun day at a MAC Cosmetics Store. The 37-year-old put up a cute pic of her and Maxwell posing in front of a mirror. "This is NOT an #ad, @maccosmetics is my daughter’s favorite store! Mommy-Daughter Day with #MAXIDREW #girlygoth," the caption noted.

Maxwell, who apparently picked out her own lipstick color, can be seen pursing her lips wearing metallic mauve lipstick.

While this whole thing might seem harmless enough, quite a few Internet trolls thought otherwise. Several dozen of them took the time to express their opinion in the comments section.

"How about taking your daughter some were fun where she can be a little girl. Instead of being brainwashed that she need makeup to look pretty," one poster remarked. "She's too young for make-up. You're going to regret it. Trust me," said another. And then one follower raged: "Her favorite store?? OMG. She should be playing outside or learning about the world not sitting in a chair putting on makeup at MAC. What's wrong with you."

That said, Simpson also had some supporters that came to her defense on social media, pointing out that the mom and daughter are simply having fun together. What’s the big deal whether you are playing with lipstick or face painting like you do in kindergarten, it’s all a positive developmental experience and having fun.

"People need to chill the eff out!! It's a mummy-daughter day, most girls would have thought this was so fun. She's not doing anything wrong or illegal," a fan hit back. "I can't quite believe the backlash this innocent photo has had. Some people just sit there looking for things to be offended by. She's not parading her child around like a show-pony in a pageant. They're just having a laugh. Seriously," a Simpson defender wrote.

It seems like the PC crowd of modern netizens refuses to give Jessica Simpson a break. The singer seems to be a favorite target of a horde mom-shamers who constantly stick their noses in other people’s business and judge them.

It’s a free country. Parents are allowed to raise their kids with their own moral values, and the fun time that Simpson was having with her daughter at the MAC cosmetic counter did not violate any social norms. Anyone who has a problem with this needs to take a long hard look in the mirror and ask themselves what it is they’re really objecting to.
