John Legend Reveals Heartbreaking Struggle That Brought Him And Wife Closer

Celebrities constantly have microphones and cameras in their faces. As such, they can tend to be pretty guarded about things, as image is everything. Smiling and throwing out some one-liners is about the best you’ll get from them most of the time, but once in awhile, they’ll open up to share some personal tales. John Legend recently did that in an interview with Cosmopolitan. As the New York Daily News shares, he actually raised a ton of eyebrows by how personal he got during the sit-down.

One of the biggest topics of the interview was his relationship with his wife, Chrissy Teigen. The couple welcomed their first child to the world last year, and that was wrought with plenty of challenges.

"Having a baby is a big challenge for a couple, and going through that together strengthens your bond because if you make it through [having a child], you know you can make it through anything," Legend said. "You want to feel like everything's working properly and want everything to be perfect, but sometimes it's not. I wouldn't say we can't conceive naturally, but I would say that it's enough of a challenge where it felt like we needed help."

Thankfully, the couple was able to get past that one and explore other options.

"We're lucky that we're living in an age where we can conceive in other ways. [In vitro fertilization] brought us Luna and hopefully it will bring us a few more awesome kids, too," Legend added.

Now that they have a baby in the fold, other issues that the couple have been working through have come to the forefront. Teigen has acknowledged that she drinks too much, and she’s working through that to become a better person. Her hubby is right by her side.

"When she was thinking about how she wanted to drink less, we talked about it. I just want to support her," Legend said. "I want her to be happy and to live the fullest, most awesome life she can, and I want us to do it together."

That’s some awesome perspective. Addiction issues have killed many a relationship, and it’s good to see a couple facing it together head-on. For Teigen’s part, she’s acknowledged her past missteps with alcohol, and that’s half the battle to getting better.

"I got used to being in hair and makeup and having a glass of wine. Then that glass of wine would carry over into me having one before the awards show. And then a bunch at the awards show," Teigen said. "Then I felt bad for making kind of an a-- of myself to people that I really respected. And that feeling, there's just nothing like that. You feel horrible. It's not a good look for me, for John, for anybody."

Hats off to Legend for being so candid, and the couple deserves major props for working through their challenges together. For a light at the end of the tunnel, their relationship will be stronger as a result.
