Kim Kardashian Laments That She May Have 'Body Dysmorphia' Due To Unflattering Pics

While it may seem like they have it made in the shade, it’s not all that easy being a Kardashian. When you’re famous for being famous, that fame has a way of metastasizing and getting out of hand. Before you know it, the fame has become an incredibly fickle beast and you have just as many detractors as you do supporters. That’s played out in a number of different ways for Kim Kardashian through the years, and she’s spoken out about one of the more high profile ones on a recent episode of "Keeping Up with the Kardashians."

As the New York Daily News shares, Kim opened up about the major flap that happened earlier this year revolving around some bikini photos of her that emerged online. The photos came from a vacation in Mexico, and they weren’t all that flattering. In fact, it made it appear as if the flawless appearance that she has come to be known for could be a product of some creative airbrushing and editing. Kim opened up about the effect that the row had on her, and she offered up an eye-popping assessment.

"You take pictures and people just body shame you," she said. "It's like literally giving me body dysmorphia. Like, I'm so insecure, I just can't take it."

“Body dysmorphia is a medical condition that occurs when someone's perception of their own physical appearance leaves them imagining or exaggerating flaws to an obsessive extent. Kardashian did not specify whether she'd actually been diagnosed with the condition during the episode,” the News reports. “The photos surfaced during Kardashian's trip to Mexico for her older sister Kourtney's 38th birthday. In the episode, Kourtney suggests they go jet-skiing, but Kim declines.”

For those that don’t have that particular flap at the top of the mind, it was particularly unsightly. Kardashian was roundly blasted for her appearance and so-called flaws, and far too many of those posting their ‘critiques’ seemed to be taking great glee in the whole situation. It’s an unfortunate byproduct of the social media era, as well as something that unfortunately comes with the territory of being famous.

"I can't have fun after seeing those pics, there's other pics where I look so good and it's just from a different angle," Kardashian adds.

To her credit, she hasn’t shied away from the scandal. She opened up about what happened during an appearance on "The View" as well.

“I saw these awful photos of myself when I was on a trip in Mexico and people were Photoshopping them and sharpening them," she said. “I definitely was not in my best shape."

Regardless of whether you care for a particular person or not, no one deserves to be body-shamed. While our society has made some amazing strides in a number of different areas, those strides haven’t been made amongst everyone. That’s unfortunate, but it’s even more off-putting how easily they can share their ‘contributions’ with the rest of the world.
