Maria Menounos Says She's Thankful For Her Brain Tumor

Earlier this year, Maria Menounos dropped some stunning news. The E! News co-anchor was diagnosed with a brain tumor, and she had to have surgery. Thankfully, all signs point to it having been caught in time, and the 39-year-old says she is now cancer free. As the New York Daily News shares, she appeared on NBC’s ‘Today’ show to offer up an update on how she’s doing.

"I still have a hard time chewing on my right side, because it was on my right side so it affected the trigeminal nerve, which controls all of your face. And so chewing here, my jaw, it's just not right yet, little things I can get dizzy moving my head side-to-side, so sometimes I look like I've been in a car accident so I just shift carefully,” she explained. "Overall I just feel so lucky to be functioning and almost normal and to not have cancer."

While there have definitely been plenty of challenges along the way, she notes that her diagnosis and treatment have led to some other changes that she wasn’t necessarily anticipating.

"Family was like 'Maria's so quiet.' I'm just so much calmer I think, I see things differently. I've been able to look back at everything and I did see this all as I gift and I did shift everything into positives throughout this journey," she said. "Out of every bad thing something good comes if you see it if you open your mind to it."

One of those good things comes in the form of her fiancé and partner of 19 years, Keven Undergaro, as it sounds like he’s been aces through the whole process.

“He's been unbelievable. The man has not left my side…He's done everything I ever could have dreamed of,” Menounos added.

After she first revealed her brain tumor diagnosis, she offered up a heartfelt message for well-wishers.

“First I wanna say thank you all for the well wishes, prayers and support. It's been a crazy time here in our home.I want you all to know that I'm ok! Seriously I'm recovering well and should be as good as new very very soon! Luckily I don't need any further treatments but I can't say the same about my mom,” she shared. “Most people want to rush out of the hospital to get home I kept saying I've never been treated kinder. I cried like a baby saying goodbye to the amazing nurses who took such good care of me. God bless nurses!”

It’s incredible to think how quickly life can change. Menounos was at the top of her career, and it seemed like she had it all from afar. Health issues took over, and that understandably flipped her entire life upside down. On the bright side, it sounds like she caught it in time, and it’s allowed her to place everything in her world in perspective. We wish her nothing but the best as she continues to recover.
