Actress Oprah Winfrey is a woman of many talents. However, she says she has no interest in becoming president of the US despite the ongoing campaign by team #Oprah2020.
Oprah sat down for an interview with Stephen Colbert earlier this week, and made it very clear that she is not interested in public office.
“Never!” she said, shaking her head. “No, it’s not my thing.”
Oprah was a major Hillary Clinton supporter, and has been involved in politics in the past. Note that Oprah tried to spread a message of hope after Republican Donald Trump’s victory in the November election. Many progressives were wondering just what Oprah was doing when she said that the president-elect seemed “humbled” when he met with President Obama after the election.
She also tweeted a picture of the two men with the caption, “Everybody take a deep breath! #HopeLives!” The blowback from her seemingly pro-Trump statements led to Oprah to backtrack and “clarify” her intentions.
Also keep in mind that Oprah is already one of the most powerful women in the world, so why would she want to be burdened with a huge, very difficult job like being president of the United States.
Oprah did tell Colbert she’ll miss Barack, Michelle and their daughters, Sasha and Malia.
“For me, you know, African-American woman, being able to see that reflection of myself through the girls and through her, just their presence there, I’m going to miss that,” she noted in the interview. “But it has meant so much to me.”
