'SNL' Comedian Suggests Trump Should Retire In Russia

President Trump should move into a retirement home in Moscow because that is “where he belongs,” Alec Baldwin declared Monday.

The actor and comedian, who portrays Trump on “Saturday Night Live,” made the joke during a speech at a fundraising event for the Iowa Democratic Party, according to The Associated Press. Displaying his mocking impression of the president, he told the political activists: “Let’s make America America again. … Make Iowa great again.”

Baldwin urged his audience to vow to “come together,” the Des Moines Register reported.

Referring to next year’s midterm congressional elections, when Democrats will try to capture control of the House and Senate, he said: “We’ve got crucial work to do right now for 2018. We’ve got party building to do on a scale that perhaps we’ve never known. … If you truly believe you’re a Democrat, you must come together with us right now and recognize that what unites is so much more than what divides us.”

The Hill noted that the actor frequently criticizes Trump. During a recent speech at George Washington University, he mused about running for the nation’s highest office.

“Would I think I’d be a good president? Yeah, I think I’d be a good president,” he said. “To run for office is something that I want to do, (but it) doesn’t seem to be practical with my lifestyle and my children.”

Baldwin started his speech in Iowa by introducing himself as the “chair of abnormal psychology department at Trump University.” He listed some of the jobs that administration officials and others might have at such an institution.

He suggested that Roy Moore, the Republican candidate for U.S. Senate in Alabama accused of molesting underage girls, could teach “hair and makeup tips for teens.” In a reference to Jeff Sessions’ fuzzy memory at recent congressional hearings, Baldwin joked that the attorney general probably would not be able to remember which class to teach.

According to the Register, the actor successfully pulled off his imitation of Trump without the aide of the wig and orange makeup he wears on “Saturday Night Live.”

He said that playing the president has been a “disturbing” experience because while the comedy skits are extremely popular, he is concerned they might “normalize” Trump’s behavior. Baldwin pledged to donate his brain to science, “if we still have science” when he dies.

He revealed that his father, who taught school in New York City, backed Democrats from John F. Kennedy to Hillary Clinton. Baldwin treated the crowd with a comical impression of Bill Clinton, and called out the names of all the 2018 Democratic candidates for Congress and statewide offices in Iowa.

“By the end of it I said, ‘Maybe he should be running for president,’” Iowa state Sen. Pam Jochum told the Register.

About 3,000 Democrats showed up for the event, an annual fundraiser previously known as the Jefferson-Jackson Dinner. The party dropped the name in response to criticism of President Andrew Jackson, who instituted the nation’s Indian-removal policy in the early 1800s.
