Talk Show Personality Leaves Audience In Tears After Revealing Son's Battle With Dyslexia

Kelly Ripa has always been open when it comes to discussing family issues on her hit TV show, ‘Live! With Kelly and Ryan’. However, Ms. Ripa’s latest story has pulled the heartstrings of her audience and co-star, Ryan Seacrest, after she told an emotional story about her son’s battle with dyslexia.

Since telling her story, Ms. Ripa, a controversial figure already prominent in the tabloids for her refusal to meet up and clear the air with former co-host, Michael Strahan, has been making headlines for all the right reasons.

Ms. Ripa’s son, Joaquin, 14, recently started high school. Alongside all the usual struggles that come with entering high school, Joaquin also struggles with dyslexia. Ms. Ripa revealed that school has always been a “big challenge” in her household, which is why she was nervous when it came time to attend Joaquin’s parent-teacher conference.

“A lot of you that watch the show know [Joaquin] has dyslexia, so school has always been a very big challenge for us in our household,” Ms. Ripa confirmed.

The 47-year old broke down in tears as she told her audience what happened during the conference, revealing that her youngest boy had earned himself straight A’s for his entire first semester. Ms. Ripa also confessed she sobbed when hearing the news for the first time.

“He was laughing so hard at me crying,” Ms. Ripa stated. “I think it made him so uncomfortable. I said ‘I’m so proud of you.'” Ms. Ripa then went on to share another heartbreaking story about her son’s experience at school.

At Joaquin’s book fair, Ms. Ripa revealed that, because her son was embarrassed by his condition, he showed everyone else’s book in place of his own: “He was showing us everybody else’s books. He didn’t want us to see his book.”

Ms. Ripa’s tale left co-star, Mr. Seacrest, and the whole audience in tears. Mr. Seacrest told Ms. Ripa how much he admired the way she and Mr. Consuelos had raised Joaquin and their two other children, Michael, 20, and Lola, 16, gushing that they are “role models,” and that he is inspired by them.

“I see the way you handle career, and most importantly family . . . and it’s so impressive,” Mr. Seacrest stated.

“Anybody who knows you and watched you agrees. When my mom cries, it makes me cry, so when you cry, it makes me cry,” Mr. Seacrest confessed.

Many of Ms. Ripa’s fans were also quick to praise the TV star, taking to her Instagram to leave comments of admiration. “The best mom in the biz!” one fan stated. “You pulled on my heartstrings, with the school chat this morning.”

While some viewers have been critical of Ms. Ripa, claiming that she is using her son to get attention, another fan was quick to come to her defense.

“Wow. She celebrates her Son’s accomplishments, and people are ripping on her. Awful. Every parent is allowed to feel proud, no matter how rich or famous they are. I am sure Joaquin feels good for getting recognition for all of his hard work.”
