Wonderful Reason Behind The Rushed Wedding Of Prince Harry And Meghan Markle

When Harry met Meghan, sparks immediately began to fly. The prince has recently said he knew at that first meeting that the American actress and activist was 'the one' for him. They have been dating for barely a year, and already they've announced their engagement.

Since they first made the news public on Monday, it seems that the couple has not wasted any time in making wedding plans, and picked a date just 6 months down the road. This led to speculation: why the rush.

The reason is revealed, and even though the wedding is being rushed, this is no shotgun situation. The couple have a much sweeter reason for going full speed ahead.

Kate Nicholl, a royal expert, says she's figured out the reason behind the rushed wedding date, and behind why Harry and Meghan seem to have chosen to keep things far more low key than Prince William's wedding to Catherine. It's because Harry is very close to his aging grandfather, Prince Philip.

Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, is 96 years old and living at Windsor with the Queen. According to Nicholl, Harry wants Philip to attend the wedding. That's why they're holding a smaller event at Windsor in May, rather than spending the next year planning a huge, elaborate affair somewhere else.

Nicholl notes that Harry wanted a smaller event anyway, but staying close to home where it would make it easier for the Duke and Queen to attend was a key factor.

“In fact, one of the reasons that Prince Harry has wanted this wedding to happen quite quickly -- this is really whirlwind by royal standards -- is because his 96-year-old grandfather, the Duke of Edinburgh, is retired now and Prince Harry really wants him to be at his wedding,” Nicholl continued.

“He's incredibly close to his grandfather and, being 96, Harry thought it was it was a great thing to [have] the wedding sooner rather than later, so his grandfather could be there, fit and healthy.”

The 33-year-old Prince was not under pressure to make his wedding as massive a state event as his father Prince Charles was expected to do when he married Diana, or as his brother Prince William was expected to do when marrying Catherine.

Both Charles and William will both most definitely wear the crown one day. Harry, on the other hand, is fifth in line, behind William's children, and will probably never be King of England. His wedding doesn't need to be as elaborate.

Harry has always shied from the spotlight, so that works out for him well.

In addition, for Markle, this is her second marriage. She doesn't seem to be interested in overdoing it, despite the fact that she's marrying a bona fide prince.

"I think Harry and Meghan were both united on the idea of having a small, family, intimate wedding," she said. "I know it doesn't sound small with 800 people, but by royal standards, it is smaller.

And, Windsor is also really special place to Prince Harry. He spent a lot of childhood there, went to school there [and] it's where he spends a lot of time as an adult with his grandmother."
