109-Year-Old Woman Says Avoiding One Thing is the Secret to Long Life

One of the oldest people in the world and Scotland’s oldest woman says there are two secrets to living a long and healthy life. 109-year-old Jessie Gallan says the first secret is a bowl of healthy porridge (oatmeal) every morning, and the second is avoiding male company.

“They’re just more trouble than they’re worth,” the amazing senior citizen explained in an interview with UK media.

Gallan left her home at the age of 13 just after the end of the First World War, and earned a living milking cows. She notes she learned the importance of working hard to earn a living very early in life. “I worked hard and seldom would I ever take a holiday,” Gallan commented.

Of note, the feisty spinster has carried her strong ethic with her throughout her since she was a teenager. She has never married, and according to friends and family, she has always taken care of herself and refused to rely on anyone else.

“She’s absolutely amazing,” a caregiver at the nursing home where Gallan lived gushed. She remained active until her last few weeks of life. Even in her second century, Gallan continued to attend church and exercise classes on a regular basis.

Unfortunately, this remarkable woman passed away in March of 2015.
