Docs Cut Into Man's Penis For Operation - Don't Realize Mistake Until It's Too Late

A man undergoing surgery on his genitals became the victim of a horrible accident.

A man in Sweden attempted to have the size of his manhood increased, but the effort resulted in the loss of his life. The man was scheduled for penis enlargement surgery, a cosmetic surgery procedure that uses transplants to increase the size of the member. Some doctors warn that the procedure is not only completely unnecessary, but very dangerous.

The Stockholm man, an otherwise healthy 30-year-old male, reportedly wanted his penis elongated, as well as the girth enlarged. The procedure was supposed to use fat cells taken from the man's belly. Surgeons performed the penile elongation which involves an incision made to loosen ligaments at the base of the member.

The medical staff then proceeded with the enlargement and injected two ounces of fat cells into the penis. Just as they were finishing up with the injection, the patient's vitals started becoming erratic. The man's heart raced, his blood-oxygen levels dropped and his blood pressure went dangerously low.

A half hour later, the man suffered a heart attack. The surgeons performed CPR on the patient and he was rushed to the emergency room, but within two hours, the man was dead.

An autopsy showed the man had no history of heart problems. His arteries were not hardened nor did he have plaque that usually causes heart attacks. Doctors determined he died of a lung embolism. This occurs when a loose piece of fat enters a punctured vein during surgery and travels to the lungs, causing blood vessels to rupture, resulting in death. the man had ruptured vessels and his lungs were full of blood.

Journal of Forensic Sciences, it is unusual for men to die in these procedures. "This is the first described case where a seemingly simple and safe procedure of penis enlargement by autologous fat transfer caused sudden death in a healthy young man," read one article.

Experts say people shouldn't be fooled by the low death rate; the procedure often leads to numerous serious health complications.

“It’s a completely useless procedure that never works and disfigures men, and could kill you,” Dr. Tobias Kohler, a urologist of the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, told BuzzFeed. “This is the worst case, but there are lots of other horrible consequences, from disfigurement to permanent erectile dysfunction to even worse.”

“If you end up with something that nobody recognizes as a penis, that is what we call sub-optimal,” the doctor added.

The American Urological Association has been warning men for 25 years that enlargements have 'not been shown to be safe or efficacious'. What's more, many of the men seeking the procedure have perfectly normal sized penises.

BuzzFeed reports that a scientific review in 2017 shows that most men seeking the procedure are more likely to be suffering from body dysmorphic disorder rather than a small penis. Body dysmorphic disorders are when people are unable to see their own bodies accurately. Such body satisfaction can drive people to extreme procedures.

Another factor in this patient's case may have been the fact that he had the procedures performed together. Usually, they are performed weeks apart, but due to demand, more and more patients have been requesting that the two surgeries be combined.
