CNN's Don Lemon Comment To Reporter Who Called Herself Fat Goes Viral

Over the past couple of weeks, news programs have not been lacking for material. It hasn’t been all-Trump, all the time either, as the nation has been gripped with other events.

Hurricanes Harvey and Irma were absolutely monstrous storms, and the nation held its collective breath to see what they were going to do. In the aftermath, the nation remained fixated on recovery efforts.

From the carnage rose dozens of gripping stories about folks coming together, as well as scores of mesmerizing stories about rescue efforts.

The hurricanes basically received wall-to-wall coverage, and reporters on the scene did a phenomenal job of relaying what they were seeing to viewers at home. There were a number of memorable exchanges between those in the field and those in the studio, including this one involving CNN’s Don Lemon.

As Yahoo shares, Lemon’s comments to news reporter Sara Sidner quickly went viral.

Sidner was on site in Daytona Beach, Florida during Irma, and she was filing a report while Lemon manned the anchor desk. The pair engaged in a back and forth, and Sidner explained to Lemon what she was seeing.

"What we're also seeing is a lot of projectiles, you've been hearing from everyone that that's the danger here. The things that cover the lights are flying around. The tops of trash cans flying around," she said.

"And this wind - I am not a small woman, as you know, Don. I am a chunky girl, and it is blowing me around when the gusts come really, really hard."

Lemon delivered a memorable reply that quickly captured the attention of scores of viewers.

"You're a beautiful woman no matter what size you are. There's nothing wrong with having a little curve," he said.

Social media quickly lit up after the interesting exchange, and commenters were downright tickled with what Lemon had to say.

"In midst of #Irma coverage, a brave CNN reporter calls herself a "chunky girl" and @donlemon tells her there's nothing wrong w/ curves. LOL," one user wrote.

"Can't get over: CNN reporter noted she's "chunky" and still wind-battered. Then Don Lemon consoles her and says she's beautiful @ any size," added another commenter.

It was a touching moment in the midst of some tense coverage. As Irma loomed and prepared to make landfall, it still wasn’t quite clear exactly how much damage would be inflicted.

Those in Florida are still getting a handle on that, but it’s quite clear that the massive beast of a storm packed a serious punch. The same applies for Harvey over in Texas.

The state is simply not built to handle so much rainfall in such a short period of time, and cleanup efforts will be measured in the months, at the very least.

While the storms may have passed, residents in both Texas and Florida will have their hands full for some time. As the nation moves on and gets back to normal without hurricanes to worry about, those folks will be dealing with the aftereffects for some time.
