Elderly Man Forcibly Restrained By Airline And Told To Defecate In Seat

In the wake of the highly publicized United Airlines incident, it’s understandable that people have lost a lot of trust in airline staff. The recent actions of aircrew on a British Airways flight from Gatwick to Jamaica have caused a fresh round of outrage.

In the disturbing case, an elderly British pensioner was restrained and cuffed to his seat when he attempted to lie down in first class after being hit with a bout of intense dizziness. The traveler in question, a 65-year-old man named Kwame Bantu is believed to suffer from some form of cancer and has described his exchange with British Airways Staff as being “treated him like a slave.”

When Mr. Bantu suddenly noticed swelling in his lower legs and began suffering from dizziness, he knew that he needed to find somewhere to lie down. However, when the elderly man attempted to lie down in a vacant first class seat, airline stewards rushed to stop him, manhandling him back to his seat and ignoring his pleas for more comfortable seating.

After a brief exchange, it is believed that the frustrated air stewards restrained Mr. Bantu to his original seat, using handcuffs along with neck and shoulder straps. A dehumanizing and discomfiting picture has been uploaded online by a concerned passenger, 40-year-old Joy Stoney, who communicated her concern for Mr. Bantu to uncaring airline crew.

The bizarre situation took an even more disturbing turn when Ms. Stoney revealed that aircrew was unresponsive when Mr. Bantu told them he had to visit the bathroom, saying: “He was holding his crotch area for a while and it was horrible to see. I called the steward manager to come see me and told her I would escort him to the toilet myself. They said, ‘He needs to defecate himself in the chair’, and I think that is utterly inhumane.”

However, when Ms. Stoney protested at the dehumanizing treatment of the elderly man, the plane’s pilot inexplicably decided to make an emergency landing at a military base in Portugal where police would remove the pair from the plane.

Mr. Bantu and Ms. Stoney were left stranded without their luggage on the Portuguese island of Terceira and the public backlash has only just begun. Mr. Bantu’s statement about the incident is beginning to viral, saying:

“They ambushed me. I was completely humiliated; my human rights had been taken away from me. They refused to listen about my medical illness and what I was going through. It’s when some of the other passengers expressed their concern for me that they stopped the plane and landed to kick us out.”
