Internet Speculates About President Trump After He Slurs His Words, Holds Cup With Two Hands

For some people, mocking President Donald Trump is a favorite pastime. The Commander-in-Chief has a lot of resisters. But a lot of people caught some recent behavior by Trump that has gone beyond funny, and they're wondering what it could really mean. Could the president be hiding a serious health issue?

Earlier this month, President Trump got a lot of ribbing on Twitter for slurring his words during a speech on Israel. He started the speech fine (or at least, sounding normal), but as he drew to the end he seemed to slow down slightly. He started laboring to continue speaking, and by the final words, he began slurring.

"God bless the United Shhtatesh. Thank you very mush," he concluded.

Some speculated about whether or not the president had been drinking or was on drugs. It's well known that Trump doesn't drink, but drugs, such as a potent medication, isn't out of the question.

Some wondered if he was in the early stages of a more serious illness, or if he was showing signs of the onset of dementia. The dementia rumors have been swirling around Trump since the election. There have been claims that anonymous insiders said Trump's mental health is failing, though there are no actual names or evidence of the claim.

Others argued that Trump, at 71 years old, is probably wearing dentures that came loose. This is another possibility.

Then in a speech Monday night, Trump did something else that drew even more speculation: he drank from a glass of water. He held the glass with two hands, much like a small child, as if he wanted to make sure he wasn't going to spill it.

Speculations swirled again. For some, it's just amusing. Many Twitter users made sippy cup jokes. Others brought back jokes about Trump having tiny hands, and that he isn't able to grasp a cup or bottle with just one hand.

For others, something much more troubling may be brewing.

"Trump slurs... that's not the give away. Holding a water bottle with two hands is," one person wrote on Twitter.

"The way he is grabbing that glass shows Trump has dementia. His motor skills are degenerating," said another person.

"You know, people w/Parkinson’s not only have tremors, they have balance problems (Trump is afraid of stairs). Some people w/Parkinson's have Lewy Body Dementia Symptoms.... [which] include deficits in attention & executive function, disorganized speech, variable confusion/alertness," another explained.

This isn't the first time Trump has had to use two hands to take a drink. Last month he picked up a water bottle and used both hands to hold it up and sip from it during a press conference. If it happened only once, he might have gotten away with it. But twice, and people are beginning to think it’s possible Trump is hiding a more serious condition.

Trump was the first one to come forward and slam his opponent, Hillary Clinton, when she was ill on the campaign trail. When Clinton suffered from a persistent cough and flu-like symptoms that even made her collapse at one point during the election, Trump argued that it meant she didn’t have the strength or stamina to last four years in such a demanding job. Now, Americans are worrying about Trump’s strength and stamina, not to mention his mental capacity.

The White House claims the slurred speech was due to dry mouth; however, they have not responded to the two-handed glass gripping.
