Mom Asks For C-Section, Gets Denied - Does Something Horrific

A 26-year-old woman, known only as ‘Ma’, has committed suicide after her family stopped her from having a much-needed caesarean birth. The doctors who assessed Ma were from Yulin No.1 Hospital in Shaanxi Province, Northern China.

During pre-birth checkups, these doctors discovered that Ma’s unborn baby had an over-sized cranium. The medical professionals concluded that Ma – who was 41 weeks pregnant – should deliver her child via a caesarean birth to prevent any chance of complications.

According to medical professionals, the size of Ma’s unborn child’s head would mean that a vaginal delivery would be risky and extremely painful. Therefore, when the time came to deliver her baby, Ma was rushed to Yulin Hospital, where she intended to have a cesarean birth.

Nevertheless, despite repeated warnings from doctors, Ma’s family – who must grant consent to any surgery practices that Ma undergoes – refused to allow the procedure.

Meanwhile, Ma’s contractions were progressing further and the unborn child’s deformed head was making the birth incredible painful for the young Chinese woman. Despite her pleas, Ma’s family continued to boycott the option of a cesarean birth.

This decision would have profound repercussions. Later that night, Ma – who was suffering from enormous pain – committed suicide by throwing herself from the fifth floor of Yulin Hospital.

Unsurprisingly, the heartbreaking story has struck a chord with outraged online commenters. One commenter on AOL, writing under the username ‘The Searchers’, was particularly infuriated by the incident.

“The necessity for family to give consent seems feudalistic in this day and age, but apparently that is the system they have in China.  I don't know if it is a tenant of Marxism, since the Communist Party rules China, or if it is a holdover from periods when people were poorly educated.  Perhaps just women's rights are totally subservient to the family as a whole, or to the husband,” declared ‘The Searchers’ in a lengthy tirade.

The tirade didn’t stop there and ‘The Searchers’ continued to condemn China’s laws and ideology, writing: “

When they say "family", does it mean spouse, parents, in-laws?  I don't know. I suspect it means she had to have consent of her husband, but not sure exactly.  I may attempt to find out but it does seem to be a horrible outcome and one which I hope the Communist Party in China, or what ever authority they have in China which mandates that a woman not be able to give her own consent for procedures such as a C section would give attention to.”

Another AOL reader, jan, was similarly outraged by the needless death, commenting:

“That family should be put in jail. They put a women who said online to a young man go ahead and end your life, he did and now she is in jail for it. Same thing. That family wouldn't  let her have a c-section and now she committed suicide, what a shame. Her life was in danger shame on that family, I hope karma gets them.”
