Mom Picks Baby Up From Daycare - Promptly Has To Rush Her To Hospital

For parents of small infants, it can be incredibly tough to get back to the grind and head back to work. Unfortunately, finances rule the day in pretty much every household, and that means that both mom and dad need to work once the baby is old enough to be left in the care of a trusted caretaker.

While that’s not always the easiest decision to make, parents find a small sense of solace when they know that they’re leaving their little angel in the hands of someone that will care for them as best as they can. However, not all caretakers are up to the task in that regard.

Kalie Kelly of Leigh Acres, Florida, is well aware of that now, as she had to rush her infant daughter to the hospital after she picked her up from a Southwest Florida daycare. As Fox 4 shares, her daughter obviously wasn’t feeling well, but Kelly would have the daylights scared out of her when she took her temperature.

“When I went home and took her temperature, she was 103.8 degrees,” she said.

“She looked distraught and out of it. Her mouth was opened, cheeks were flushed.”

Beyond being obviously sick, there were other clear signs that were missed by the daycare.

“I went to change her diaper and realized she still had feces on her which was just heartbreaking,” she continued.

“I took off her socks and realized these sores on her feet, really red and irritated. I took her to the hospital that night and she ended up having hand, mouth and foot disease.”

Kelly would get her daughter the care she needed, and her little girl is doing just fine. However, she’s pretty ticked off at the daycare in question, which was located at Grace Community School, and she took to social media to share her experience and warn other parents.

A Department of Children and Families spokesperson noted that the school is a religiously exempt facility, and it's not licensed or inspected by the state as a result.

Regardless, the exemption does not prevent the facility or its employees from exercising sound judgement. When a child seems unwell, the parents need to be contacted.

In addition, it’s not too much to ask for children to be properly cared for and not be sitting around in soiled diapers, which could cause even more problems for the parents to have to tend to. Kelly is aware that the disease is common among small children in group settings, but she’s perturbed by the school’s lax behavior when it comes to her child.

“If they have a fever, you shouldn’t have to worry about being called, that should be the first thing that they do is contact the parent, not find out how I did,” she said. “I will definitely do my homework better and believe reviews.”

That last point can’t be stressed enough for new parents. Research is your best friend when choosing a daycare, and personal visits and tours should be welcomed by the staff that hopes to earn your business.

If you come across a red flag in your travels, then it’s time to move on and find another place to care for your little ones.
