Parents Claim They Don't Need Food - Live Off The Energy Of Universe

Thousands of people, mostly children, die every day of starvation. Apparently, they haven't been let in on the big secret: human beings don't need food to survive. O

ne couple, parents of two, say they barely eat. Instead of living off food, they live off breathing and the energy of the universe.

Akahi Ricardo and Camila Castello are 'Breatharians'. They belong to a movement that claims that people do not need food to survive. The couple, who split their time between Ecuador and California, say they barely eat.

The 34-year-old mother said that she only ate about five times during her entire pregnancy, and only because she chose to eat in social settings. She said she 'knew her son would be nourished enough by my love and this would allow him to grow healthily in my womb'.

"Humans can easily be without food, as long as they are the connected to the energy that exists in all things and through breathing," said Camila. "For three years, Akahi and I didn't eat anything at all and now we only eat occasionally like if we're in a social situation or if I simply want to taste a fruit."

The couple say they're healthier and happier than ever as breatharians, and their 'food-free lifestyle' has saved so much in grocery bills that they're able to pursue other passions in life.

"Obviously, our living costs are a lot less than most families and that has allowed us to spend our money on things that really matter like travelling and exploring together," said the 36-year-old father of two.

Of course, it probably helps that they make money by teaching courses on breatharians. For $1,700, you can join their '8 Day Process' workshop in San Francisco, California.

Or, you can purchase their full collection of 'Breatharian Meditations' for $88. On their website, they say it's been 'scientifically proven' that humans don't need food, though they also note that their courses do not advocate giving up food or any special diet plan.

After years of vegetarianism, the couple graduated to a raw, vegan diet, and then moved on to a fruitarian diet (a diet of only foods picked from vines, such as tomatoes or strawberries, rather than foods that would kill a whole plant, such as lettuce or carrots).

Finally, they undertook the '21 day breatharian process', which is supposed to help the body adapt to only water and diluted fruit juice.

"It was a powerful one and stepping stone into realizing the infinite potential that lies within," said Ricardo. "It led us to explore the breath and its presence within our lives, showing us that we could easily be without food as long as we had air. I used to eat a lot but I haven't felt hungry since that process in 2008."

Despite the claims, breatharians have yet to prove to skeptics that they can survive without food. One notable advocate, Wiley Brooks, was caught having food sneaked into a hotel room for him.

In controlled experiments in which breatharians have offered to take part, they've either been caught sneaking in food, or passed out from starvation. Jasmuheen, an Australian breatharian guru, offered to be watched to prove she doesn't sneak food. She collapsed from severe dehydration on the fourth day and the test was put to a stop.
