Regular Hygiene Nearly Kills This Woman After Getting A Close Shave

Many women know the pain of shaving their legs and around bikini area. Depending on your experience and the kind of razor you’re using, it’s very easy to nick your legs with the sharp blade. One 44-year-old woman and mother named Dana Sedgewick from Sheffield, England, did just that during her weekly beauty routine, making a small cut in her bikini area. As she had cut herself many times before, Ms. Sedgewick paid the wound little notice. However, several days later, the woman noticed that something was terribly wrong.

In a story issued by Cosmopolitan, it has been revealed that Ms. Sedgewick was using a new kind of razor to trim the hair around her bikini area, an innocent beauty practice that would nearly take the woman’s life. After trimming the pubic hair, Ms. Sedgewick noticed slight swelling and a rash around the area, saying: “I felt unwell and noticed a little pimple on my groin which kept bleeding. I didn't think anything of it as I often got a rash from shaving. Little did I know that this tiny pimple would almost cost me my life.”

Two days after Ms. Sedgwick had shaved, she became dizzy and nauseous, prompting her to get an antibiotic prescription from doctors. Horrifyingly, within hours of returning from the doctor, Ms. Sedgwick noticed that her legs were turning black as she went into shock. Doctors were shocked by the rapid decline in her health with Dana saying “It was touch-and-go as to whether I'd make it.”

Medical professionals were forced to induce a coma as they spent 10 hours, performing surgery on Dana, cutting away dying flesh that had been affected by a necrotic bacteria called necrotizing fasciitis. During the surgery, Dana nearly died several times after she developed sepsis. This complication can arise during infections and affects the blood flow and internal organs, stopping Dana’s heart 4 times.

Incredibly, Ms. Sedgwick managed to survive the horrific ordeal and, 21 operations later, she is able to walk with the aid of crutches. Despite horrific injuries to her legs, Ms. Sedgewick is just grateful to be alive and able to see her children again.
