A UK woman was so addicted to tanning beds that she would even use them while she was nine months pregnant. According to the Daily Mail, skin cancer was finally able to put things in perspective for her in a way that even pregnancy couldn’t.
Jo Irving, 32, had fed her addiction for nearly two decades and admits to using tanning beds as many as five times per week. Even pregnancy didn’t deter her quest for bronze skin, and she would continue to use them throughout the full term of her pregnancy. A blemish that continued to grow prompted her to seek medical attention, and what she found out would lead her to change her ways.
The blemish that she had turned out to be what is known as a ‘rodent ulcer,’ and would require an extensive procedure to extract it and attempt to repair the damage caused by it.
“Luckily, it was the least harmful form of skin cancer, basal cell skin carcinoma. I decided to look at it in a positive way. It’s a wake-up call. It means I haven't used a sunbed since and I never will again,” Jo says.
Sounds like Jo has finally gotten the message loud and clear.
