Woman Who Spent $100K On Surgery Hates Her New Body

One woman spent a ton of money in the hopes of attaining her desired figure. The actual result has left her extremely disappointed.

A woman from Seattle who was morbidly obese followed her doctor's advice to have weight loss surgery. The costly surgery initially appeared to be a success, but then complications arose requiring another surgery.

She's lost more than 100 pounds and dropped nine dress sizes, but she's been left with large flaps of sagging skin that she feels makes her look even worse than when she was obese.

Jessica Valoy says growing up, her family's life seemed to revolve around food. Everywhere they went, they were always eating. When she went to friends’ houses on the weekend, they were packed with snacks. Valoy said she tried many different diets, but nothing seemed to work.

By age 30, Valoy was weighing in at 312 pounds. It was difficult to move for her. "Over the years my weight stopped me from doing everything, I once got stuck on a rollercoaster at a theme park, they tried to force down the harness but it wouldn't fit," she said.

A big part of the problem was her out-of-control appetite. "On the way home from work I would stop at a fast food place, and get a pre-meal because I was so hungry," she tells the Daily Mail. "I would eat it in the car and get rid of the evidence before I got home."

Valoy's doctor convinced her that her best option was weight loss surgery. In 2014, she was fitted for a gastric sleeve.

"The surgery worked great at first, but I started to get acid reflux and was referred back to the hospital," she said. "Three weeks after my wedding in July 2016, I underwent a gastric bypass to correct the complications caused by my first operation."

Valoy began losing weight rapidly. She ended up losing 120 pounds, and she's maintained the weight loss for nearly a year. Unfortunately, another side effect is causing problems in her life. Excess skin hanging from her arms, legs, and stomach is not only uncomfortable but an eyesore. Valoy is extremely embarrassed about her skin, telling her husband she looks like a Shar Pei.

She's tried going to the gym, and while her muscles are toning up somewhere in her body, it's impossible to see under the mounds of hanging flesh. She feels like she looks worse now than she did when she was overweight.

"I've worked out that it would cost around $54,000-$81,000 for the skin removal surgery, and I'm unable to get it on my insurance," Valoy says.

This can be a massive financial burden, considering Valoy's previous surgeries cost approximately $108,000.

Valoy and her husband have turned to the internet for help. They've started a GoFundMe account to try and raise money for some of the skin surgeries.

"I hope that by sharing my journey it will help others who are just starting out, I want people to understand and see the whole process, including the complications and struggles," she said. "You don't always get the results you hope for."
