This Man's Failed Marriage Proposal Becomes Stuff Of Legends At Iconic Ballpark

Whether you’re a man or a woman, proposing can be one of the most stressful things you can do. The fear of rejection and uncertainty can be a crippling part of the process. For one man at Fenway Park, Massachusetts, his grandiose and romantic display of affection has received a very lackluster response from his partner in a highly publicized proposal. The man had paid a large sum of money to have his proposal question shown on the New Balance scoreboard at the sports ground. Meanwhile, the sporting field’s camera’s swung towards the couple as the man went on one knee and popped the question. However, crowds were left disappointed after the woman shook her head and began quietly arguing with her partner.

Luckily, before the pair could be any more embarrassed, the camera controller realized what was happening, turning off the scoreboard and swinging the cameras away. The petrifying moment occurred during a Red Sox game and was witnessed by the audience of 37,000 people. Video footage of the incident has surfaced online and the reactions of the crowd can be heard as they chant “Just say yes.” A reporter, Pete Abraham, working at the Boston Globe took to Twitter to describe the embarrassing moment, saying: “The scoreboard proposal at Fenway may have just gone awry. There was no hug, the camera cut away and the crowd groaned.”

However, Mr. Abraham isn’t the only person to take to social media after the incident with thousands of other people expressing their support for the man’s bravery with a Twitter user named J.J. Connel saying: “Thoughts and prayers to the guy who just got rejected on his Fenway proposal #Friendzoned.” The cost to put a message up on the scoreboard is believed to be $350 with all proceeds going to charity.

Alternatively, some online commentators have used the opportunity to speak out about how the situation could be being misinterpreted. After one Twitter user, Clark Rowe, labeled the woman the ‘Meanest Girl’, another user responded by saying: “Dude, you don't know them. Maybe it was their third date. Maybe he's manipulative. A girl doesn't have to say yes, just cause someone asked.”
