‘I Was Terrified!’: Woman Finds 7-Foot-Long Boa Constrictor inside Washing Machine

Ms. Shirley Oliveira, a 46-year-old mother from Salvador, Brazil, got the fright of her life after her and her 18-year-old daughter, Amanda, discovered a 7-foot-long boa constrictor wrapped inside their washing machine. The 46-year-old was initially confused after Amanda began hearing weird noises coming from the machine, and discovered the snake after investigating.

“When I opened the lid, I got the fright of my life because there was a snake wrapped around the drum with its head poking out,” Ms. Oliveria told Caters News. “I was so scared because I could see the snake was huge. Its body was thick and muscular. I was terrified it might be dangerous.”

After discovering the 17-pound boa constrictor, Ms. Oliveria called the authorities, not wanting to risk trying to remove the monstrous snake herself. When the authorities told her that she would have to wait until the following day to have the snake removed, Ms. Oliveria’s neighbor took matters into his own hands.

Mr. Joao Paulo Ribeiro, a snake owner, and a veterinary student, knew immediately that the boa constrictor was not poisonous. In a video that has since gone viral, Mr. Riberio can be seen grabbing the constrictor with his bare hands, wrestling it out of the washing machine.

“It was really wedged in and it was hard to lift out,” Mr. Ribeiro said. “It took me over 20 minutes to remove it and it was a struggle right until the end.” After removing the snake, Mr. Ribeiro deduced that the snake is common to their region of Brazil and, despite its enormous size and weight, the snake does not pose a threat to humans.

The constrictor, supposedly a male, was in great health upon capture and was immediately released into the wild following its removal. “I’m just grateful everything worked out well in the end for us and the animal, which was probably just as frightened as we were,” Ms. Oliveria stated.

In a similar story, a campus cop did not have as much confidence when a snake was found slithering through the University of Central Florida. The campus cop, who supposedly had a phobia of snakes, was filmed bravely trying to sweep the snake out of the university’s campus counseling center.

After cautiously attempting to wrangle the snake, the officer squealed as the serpent slithered from its hiding place. In a final bid to remove the snake, the officer nervously opened the center door before chasing the snake outside to the cheers of onlookers.

The police department from the area uploaded the video of the campus officer to their Facebook page, commenting, “We catch bad guys, not snakes. Even our officers get a little scared sometimes.”

Students of the University of Central Florida have spammed the post with comments, with student Jenna Michelle tagging a friend before commenting, “this made me laugh so hard. I love our school police department.” Another student expressed their gratitude to the brave officer, adding “As always, thank you for your service to the people.”
