After Mom Loses Her Job, She And Son Celebrate Lifetime Of Hard Work

Despite the best of intentions, people are rarely able to check off many things from their bucket list. Balancing work, studies and family often leaves little time and money for people to fulfill their lifelong dreams. A 75-year-old woman named Rebecca Danigelis became convinced that she would never be able to complete her bucket list after her employment in the hospitality industry was terminated. The distraught woman quickly called her adult son, Sian-Pierre Regis, leaving the following voice message: “I just got fired, just want you to know that. Call me. Bye.”

Mr. Regis was shocked by the news, telling MSN that “We were raised above a hotel. I was always very aware of the fact that everything she made went into our mouths." Rebecca even cashed out her 401k to help Regis go to college. In the wake of his mother’s lifelong selflessness, Mr. Regis decided that it was his turn to help his mother complete her bucket list.

Over the years, Rebecca has created an extensive bucket list that included taking hip-hop lessons from Broadway dancers, making an Instagram post and visiting a farm in Vermont. One of the more meaningful items on the elderly mother’s bucket list was a trip to England to visit the grave of her sister. Due to work commitments, Rebecca was unable to visit her sister when she passed away. With the help of her son, Rebecca finally paid homage to her sister, saying “I wish I had come sooner.”

Mr. Regis has accompanied his mother every step of the way and the pair have more plans for the future. While Rebecca has greatly enjoyed the incredible journey, she maintains that she wouldn’t change anything about her years as a mother and worker. Mr. Regis is just happy that his mom is taking some time for herself, saying: “There is a spirit within her that I’ve never seen so bright, she’s 75 but I’ve never seen her younger than in these moments.”

Mr. Regis has been video logging the pair’s incredible journey and plans to create a movie called ‘Duty Free’. The dynamic duo still have a lot of work to do if they plan on completing Rebecca’s bucket list. Some of the most exciting items include a skydiving expedition and a walk along the Boston Marathon route.
