Doctors Tell Mom That Her Baby Won't Make It - Then She Goes Into Labor

When Holly Lewis, a 21-year-old single mom, began suffering from a backache and stomach pain, she immediately realized something wasn’t right. After ignoring the pain for several weeks, Ms. Lewis woke up in the middle of the night to find she could barely get out of bed without screaming.

Rather than booking an appointment with her regular care physician, Ms. Lewis dragged herself out of bed and somehow managed to drive to an after-hours doctor service. However, when she was seen by the doctor, Ms. Lewis – who was in severe pain – was told that her condition was nothing more than mild gastric pain.

Despite Ms. Lewis’ protests, the doctor turned away and refused to serve her any longer. Nevertheless, the young mother knew that her pain wasn’t caused by any gastric issues. Although Ms. Lewis knew in her gut that something was wrong, the doctor’s diagnosis had rattled her confidence.

However, when the pain continued to worsen, Ms. Lewis knew that she had to get a second opinion on the mysterious affliction. After rushing herself to Birmingham Women’s Hospital, Ms. Lewis finally received a second, more compassionate, opinion. What doctors told Ms. Lewis next left her shocked.

After running some tests on Ms. Lewis, doctors sat the young mother down and dropped an enormous bombshell. Holly Lewis was pregnant and doctors believed that her unusual pain was because the baby had already miscarried.

Depressed by the heartbreaking reveal, Ms. Lewis was given some medication and told to come back to the hospital the following week. However, when Ms. Lewis woke up the next day, the single mother began to believe that her unborn child was still alive.

Unsurprisingly, Ms. Lewis’ mother instinct quickly reared to life and she decided to name the child growing in her womb, telling American Web Media: “I already have another little girl, and my earlier pregnancy meant I had an instinct I was still carrying Lacey.”

When Ms. Lewis returned to the hospital, doctors tried to explain that the chances of her baby being alive were incredibly slim. Although doctors told Ms. Lewis that she’d already had a failed ectopic pregnancy, the brave mother decided to continue bearing the pain until she could give birth.

Several weeks later, Ms. Lewis was rushed back to the hospital in labor. As doctors looked on in amazement, Ms. Lewis gave birth to a child that everyone else thought would be dead. The birth of her second child left Ms. Lewis in a state of both joy and outrage.

Ms. Lewis thought that after weeks of denial, the doctors that misled her would apologize and admit that they made a mistake. According to The Metro, no such apology has been delivered by doctors at the Birmingham Women’s Hospital.

In a response to local media outlets, Professor Ros Keeton, the hospital’s Chief Executive, told reporters: “It is not always possible to detect a pregnancy on scanning in the very early stages, and so we cannot rely on this as a definite diagnosis.”

Although the doctor’s advice was incorrect, the medical professionals followed the best standard of practice and have not been criticized by their superiors.
