Mom Furious After Seeing Children Suffering From Severe Sunburns At Daycare

A single mother thought she was leaving her two sons in good hands when she dropped them off at their day care center. She went off to work and picked up her sons at the end of the day. When she got a look at her sons, she was shocked and horrified.

It was a scorching summer day, and the day care workers decided to take the kids to a nearby water park for some cool, refreshing fun. When the kids wanted to take off their shirts, the day care worker said it was okay. Temperatures continued to rise, but the day care providers didn't have any sunscreen for the kids.

The thermometer rose all the way up to 110 degrees that day, but no one stopped the kids from playing out in the brutal sun. When their mom, Shaunna, came back to pick her sons up, she couldn't believe what she saw. The two boys were bright red and in agony.

The kids were screaming in pain, and their backs were covered with big, liquid-filled blisters. One blister on Connor's back was the size of a baseball.

Shaunna rushed her sons to the hospital, and the kids were so badly burned that they had to be air-lifted to a burn hospital. They were treated for second- and third-degree burns.

When the mom got a chance, she got in touch with the day care and demanded answers. The staff admitted that they had neglected to put any sunscreen on the boys, and didn't call them in as the day grew hotter.

A video shows the two crying children, suffering from blistering, scaling, cracked skin in the hospital. They needed to be treated to ensure that their wounds would not become infected. It's unimaginable that the fair-skinned boys were allowed to play shirtless under the sun by the day care staff without any protection.

Child care experts recommend that parents and child care providers keep kids out of the sun during the hottest parts of the day, and that when kids do go out they should be wearing protection. Protection includes sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, and clothing.

Sunburns can be a serious thing, even years after they’re forgotten. Even occasional sunburns can triple a person's risk of getting deadly skin cancers, it doesn't even have to be so bad that the skin gets raw and starts peeling.

The sad part of the story is that this is not the first time that the day care has been found negligent. Apparently, the same facility has been cited 19 times by the Oklahoma Department of Human Services. Despite the complaints, the day care was still in operation and parents were none the wiser about what was going on.

Shaunna says she was horrified. As a single, working mother, she’s not sure what else she’s supposed to do other than entrust her young boys to day care workers. She says she’s going to be extra careful about who she leaves her boys with in the future and urges other parents to do the same.
