Mom Reminds Parents That Fatal Accidents Can Happen Suddenly To Anyone

A mom from the U.K. wanted to share a story of what recently happened with her baby. Despite the fact that it was terrifying and embarrassing, she felt compelled to remind parents of how quickly accidents can happen with little ones. She took to her blog to share.

"Today I almost killed my daughter," announced Bec Crombie. The 29-year-old mom says she's generally a 'cautious parent,' but a horrific near miss was a real wake-up call for her.

Crombie was home with her one-year-old daughter, Nylah. The scene is probably a familiar one to many parents: Nylah was on the kitchen floor playing with pots and pans as Crombie was preparing dinner.

The mom was chopping vegetables on a cutting board, put down the knife and turned away for a second to grab something. When she turned around again, she watched in horror as Nylah had pulled herself to her feet and had reached up for the cutting board. Everything came tumbling down, including a knife that 'narrowly miss stabbing her in the face.'

"My heart sank. I felt sick, and still do. At the thought of the shoulda, coulda and wouldas, and how quick everything just happened, within the blink of an eye," explained Crombie.

"Once the initial shock had passed, I began to cry, thinking of how lucky we were that she wasn’t even left with a scratch," Crombie continued. "Up until this afternoon's incident, she had never reached up for the bench, nor grabbed anything off it. It shocked me that she could even reach. Unfortunately, accidents like this happen all the time."

Crombie says she wanted to share to remind parents that all it takes is a split second for a terrible accident to change your life. “The truth is I’m so beyond embarrassed that it happened ‘on my watch,’ because I’m such a cautious parent as it is, but I feel it’s important to share in the hope that this, or similar NEVER happens to anyone else.”
