Mother Places 6-Year-Old Son’s Hand on Hot Stove as Punishment for Fighting at School

A mother has been arrested after it was discovered that she put her 6-year-old son’s hand on a hot stove after she learned that he hit several children while at school. Ms. Miriam Rebolledo, 29, was arrested by Miami police on charges of aggravated child abuse and is currently being held at Miami-Dade’s Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on $7,500 bond.

A mother has been arrested after she put her son’s hand on a hot stove after it was revealed that he had been fighting at school. Ms. Rebolledo told police that she was at her wits end and “could not take it anymore,” after learning that the 6-year-old had hit several children at school.

To punish him, Ms. Rebolledo decided to use “a more extreme form of punishment,” and held his hand on the hot stove.

Judge Arina Fajardo Orshan was quick to condemn Ms. Rebolledo, who is originally from Columbia, telling her during her court hearing that, “In the United States, it’s not, that’s not proper parenting. That is never a proper way to discipline a child.”

“You have the cutest son,” Ms. Orshan continued. “I met him this morning. He is very sad that he has to go to foster care.”

Ms. Rebolledo attempted to defend her actions following her release from jail, claiming that it was her right to punish her son as she saw fit, and claimed that despite taking him to a psychologist and trying many other forms of discipline, there was no other way she could get through to her son.

“My son is so rebellious that he got to the point to kill an animal. What am I supposed to do? Stay home without doing anything for my son?” Ms. Rebodello retorted in Spanish. “I’m a bad mom, but they don’t know the truth. This is the kind of thing a mother has to do so that her son can grow up to be a good person tomorrow.”

“It’s so easy to get those guns. You want my son to grow up to be a bully who beats up on kids? And he isn’t just going after boys, he bullied a girl,” Ms. Rebodello concluded as her husband pulled her away into their car.

The story of Ms. Rebodello is, unfortunately, not an isolated incident. In fact, a 32-year-old mother from Florida was recently arrested for burning her son on the chest with a clothing iron when he failed to show her his homework.

The mother in question, Tamecha Jean, was charged with aggravated child abuse after it was discovered that she used a clothing iron as a form of punishment. Ms. Jean initially claimed that her son was incredibly clumsy and, while she was disciplining him with a ruler, he accidentally burned himself on the iron.

Derby Sanon, a 28-year-old mother from the Manatee County, Florida, has also been charged after she burned her 3-year-old son because he wet his bed.
