Pregnant Mom Comes Under Fire For Controversial Maternity Picture

For many women, maternity photoshoots are one of the most significant milestones of pregnancy. Unsurprisingly, the chance to pose for the camera and showcase the beauty of life often leads to some very artistic ideas. Well-known maternity photoshoots have ranged from naked Kardashians to Beyoncé’s famous maternal goddess collection. Now, one woman from South Akron, Ohio, has made a buzz after uploading a photo of her truly unique maternity photoshoot.

The woman in question, 33-year-old Emily Mueller, works as a beekeeper and she was determined to include bees in her photoshoot. When the day came, a chance event made Ms. Mueller’s plan a reality and her maternity photos show thousands and thousands of bees all over the woman’s baby bump while she relaxes in a vestal white pullover dress.

According to the Daily Mail, Ms. Mueller used 20,000 bees – relaxing on her stomach and belly – in her photoshoot. The brave beekeeper has a lot of trust in the buzzing insects and seemed unconcerned by the thousands of stingers poised near her belly. “Bees have been a huge part of our lives for the past few years so I wanted to incorporate them into something important to me - like my maternity photos,” she emphasized while explaining her unique photoshoot theme.

Ms. Mueller runs a 24-hive strong bee farm, Mueller Honey Bee Removal, with her husband, 37-year-old Ryan, and it contains approximately 21 million bees. After dealing with the small insects for so long, Ms. Mueller is very happy to have them in the special moments of her life, saying: “A lot of people think I’m insane but I’m so comfortable with bees so it was never something I had anxiety about.”

Since she uploaded her stunning maternal photographs, the question on everyone’s lips has been how did Ms. Mueller placate the bees for the photoshoot? Now, Ms. Mueller has revealed how, on the morning of her scheduled photoshoot, she had to empty an entire hive of bees. However, rather than find a temporary hive for the flying insects, Ms. Mueller had the idea to use them for another purpose.

“I had been called to a swarm removal that morning so I fed those bees sugar to make sure they would be content and gentle enough to work with. Then I put the queen bee in a cage and tied it to a branch in a tree in the garden. She is larger and bigger so it was easy to identify her,” she cheerfully says. When Ms. Mueller gently shook the hive, the well-fed bees emerged and quickly settled near their queen.

Out of the 20,000 bees, Ms. Mueller believes that she was only lightly stung 3 times and even these were preventable. “I felt calm throughout, though I did get stung three times, I accidentally squished one with my butt and another under my arm pit, and the third time I was pretending to eat a bee jokingly and I squashed one against my lip,” she jokes. Nevertheless, the stings haven’t dissuaded Ms. Mueller from her love of bees. “The photos were worth it. I love them,” she declares.
