School Tells Mom Daughter's Shorts Are Inappropriate - Mom Unleashes Scathing Reply

One of the most powerful social campaigns in contemporary America is the push to end discriminating attitudes against women, whether it’s at school, home or the workplace. One outraged mother from New York has taken to social media to pen a furious open letter after she was repeatedly told that her 13-year-old daughter’s attire was “inappropriate” for school. The woman in question, Catherine Pearlman, was specifically told by a middle school principal that her daughter’s shorts were in violation of the school’s dress code.

Ms. Pearlman, a self-proclaimed parenting guru and founder of the website ‘Family Coach’, was outraged by the accusations levelled against her daughter and decided to write an open letter to the school’s principal, sharing it on a community page for parents. The scathing letter began with Ms. Pearlman writing, “Thank you for sending a note home for the second day in a row to say my daughter was dressed inappropriately for school.”

The letter also addresses the school’s response to the young girl’s attire, with Ms. Pearlman sarcastically saying, “I’d like to offer an additional thank you for forcing her to change into large mesh shorts that have been worn by only god knows who and potentially never washed. To reward you for treating my daughter with such concern, I am cordially inviting you to take my daughter shopping.”

The outdated complaints of the unnamed New York school allegedly revolved around the young girl’s tight, low-cut shorts. Ironically, online commentators have highlighted that the girl’s shorts are not even revealing or inappropriate, with one Daily Mail user commenting, “school gym shorts are shorter than this!”

Along with her extensive letter, Ms. Pearlman attached several pictures of her daughter and her normal attire. The passionate mother also highlighted that her daughter wasn’t comfortable wearing long pants or dresses at school, wittily inviting the principal to find proper clothing, writing: “I thank you endlessly for taking on this chore. What a relief for me.”

In her final point, Ms. Pearlman made a cutting statement about the school’s discriminatory view towards her daughter’s attire, saying, “I forgot to thank you for making it clear to my daughter that her body is somehow a distraction, either to herself or to the boys. I thought she might have missed the message earlier in the year when the gym teacher told her she couldn’t wear yoga pants because the boys aren’t able to control themselves.” The mother’s furious statement has attracted widespread support online and it remains unclear if the school has issued a response.
