Teen Parents Defy The Odds, And Mom's Powerful Message Is Inspiring To All Parents

Teen pregnancy is not generally recommended. It's not easy being a parent, and most young people are simply not ready for that kind of challenge.

Even for adults with established marriages, careers and financial stability, it's not easy to raise kids. Still, there are teen parents out there who defy the odds.

This young mom has some words of wisdom to which all parents can probably relate.

Caitlin Fladager was only 18 years old when she first found out she was pregnant. She and her high school boyfriend, Noah Slomski, who was 17 years old at the time, were told that their lives were basically over.

Now, five years and two children later, Caitlin wants everyone to know that this is not the case.

"My husband was only 17 when I got pregnant with our daughter and I was told to expect him to leave. 4 years ago, when I asked him how he would be different than any other teen dad, he said 'I guess you'll have to wait and see so I can show you' He definitely did," the Canadian woman said.

At 23 years old, Caitlin is a mother of two and works as a mommy blogger. She remembers how scared she was when she was 18 and pregnant because of the kinds of comments she got from everyone around her.

No one thought that she and Noah would make it, but no matter what they did, they kept getting criticized.

"When I had my daughter and wasn't married, I got told she was a bastard child and you should be married before having children. Then with my son I was married before I had him, I then got told I was too young to be married," she writes.

"When I was a stay at home mom with my daughter, I got called lazy and asked how I was able to mooch off my man for money. When I got a job, I was asked how I was able to leave my daughter all day to go to work," she continued.

Caitlin writes about how seemingly no choice she made came without criticism. Whether she breastfed or bottle fed, whether she had one child or two, whether she vaccinated or hesitated to vaccinate, whether she coslept or not, whether she pursued her education or not - the list went on.

No matter what the little family did, critics seemed to love to chime in to tell them they were doing it wrong.

In fact, when Caitlin told Noah she was pregnant, the 17-year-old stepped up. He was there for the birth and the two raised their daughter together.

They became engaged and got married. They had a second child, a son, two years later.

Caitlin recently made a video montage of the family’s life together. Photo after photo shows love, hugs, kisses, cuddles, snuggles, smiles, fun and games.

The family looks happy, despite every critic that told them they were making every mistake in the book. The mommy blogger says their lives are not perfect, and they have struggles like everyone else, but overall they did what was right for them, and it works.

"In the end, people will judge no matter what you do. So you better make decisions that work for you and your family."

"Because in the end, it only matters if you're happy!" she concludes.
