Two Single Moms Face Cruelty To Children Charges Based On Extreme Neglect

Child abuse is a huge problem throughout the world, but the US shamefully has among the highest child abuse rates among all developed nations. This travesty relates to a number of social and cultural issues in this county, but according to public health experts, the growing trend toward income and wealth inequality is the biggest factor in the continuing increase in child abuse and child neglect cases in the US these days.

According to a variety of media sources in South Carolina, two single moms have been arrested and are facing charges after six children were found living in disgusting and unhealthy conditions in a home in a small town.

The media reports note that Fallon Stowell, 27, and Logan Stowell, 26, both residents of Lyman, SC, are facing charges of cruelty to children as well as possession of drug paraphernalia.

It seems that local police officers responded to a call at a home in Lyman on Friday after a report that multiple children in diapers were playing in a front yard and apparently unsupervised by an adult.

Moreover, when the police arrived at the home, they found six children under the age of 5 playing in the yard. The police report noted that pieces of a broken mirror and other glass were strewn around the yard, and three of the children had diapers drooping from being soiled.

When the officers arrived on scene, the eldest child said his parents weren’t there, but his aunt, Fallon Stowell, was inside the home. Based on the details in the police report, the officers found Stowell inside the home with a blanket pulled over her.

After some discussion with the aunt, it was determined that the women are each single parents to three of the kids and rent out the house together.

At that point, the cops went ahead and conducted a complete search of the home, and verified that it was not a safe place for children to be inhabiting. Feces and trash were piled up everywhere and the residence smelled like urine.

The police report detailed that they also found numerous empty liquor bottles and other drug paraphernalia at various locations throughout the home.

The Stowell sisters were arrested as soon as they showed up as the residence was not fit for children to be living in

Given that the moms of the kids were charged and arrested, and no family members could take the kids, the six neglected toddlers were taken from the custody of their moms and placed into emergency protective custody. Of note, the South Carolina Department of Social Services is working with the children and responded to the scene when the information about the trash and feces in the home was reported to the department..

Local media sources point out that the two neglectful sisters have been into the Spartanburg County Detention Center, and have not made bond as of the time of reporting.
