Paris Hilton Comes Under Fire For Comparing Herself To Icon

Paris Hilton rocketed to fame when her TV series The Simple Life debuted in 2004, but the world got to see a whole lot more of her before the series dropped. Her ex-boyfriend, Rick Saloman, released a sex tape that the pair had made back in 2001. As the Daily Mail shares, it remains one of Hilton’s biggest regrets, and she’s still carrying around the scars and baggage.

Hilton recently opened up for an interview with Marie Clare magazine, in which she touched on a number of topics. The infamous tape was among them, and she explained the effects that it has had on her life.

“It's really hurtful, because my whole life I really looked up to Princess Diana, all these elegant, amazing women, and I feel like [Salomon] just took that all away from me,” she explains. “I could have been like that, but because of that tape, I will always be judged and thought of as whatever they say about me because of a private moment between my boyfriend and me.”

She’s obviously still quite peeved about the betrayal from Saloman, and it’s had long-term consequences for her.

“I wish I had never met him. That is actually the one regret in my life. I wish that I had never met that guy. I could not leave my house for months. I was so depressed, humiliated. I didn't want to be seen in public,” Hilton continued. “I feel like I cannot trust anyone. As soon as I start dating a guy, all of a sudden they become this guy that all the girls want.”

During the interview, Hilton was asked for her thoughts on President Donald Trump, who is actually a friend of her family.

“I’ve known him since I was a little girl. And he's always been so nice, so respectful and sweet,” she said.

The interviewer brought up some of the derogatory comments Trump has made in regard to women in the past, but Hilton seems unfazed by that.

“I've heard guys say the craziest things ever, because I'm always around guys, and I listen to them speak,” Hilton replied.

The interviewer would go on to point out that Trump was accused of sexual harassment by a number of women, but Hilton wasn’t biting.

“I think that they are just trying to get attention and get fame,” she said.

As for her public image, Hilton is aware that she’s viewed negatively in some circles, but she’s learned to keep her head high and not let it faze her all that much.

“People love to talk s**t, I'm used to it, over the years. I love how, anyone I meet, I always change their mind right away,” Hilton explained. “I'm not what people think. It's fun to kind of laugh with it and say I'm in on the joke.”

Hilton sounds a lot more grounded than she’s given credit for. The joke that she speaks of may actually be on the critics that love to throw shade her way.
