Airline Employee Saves Two Teens From What Might Have Been A Terrible Fate

An American Airlines travel agent working at Sacramento International Airport in California was checking in two teens, but she sensed immediately that something was very wrong.

The girls were underage, but there were no adults dropping them off or meeting them. They had expensive tickets paid for by someone with a different name.

She became concerned about the girls and called the police. Sure enough, the girls were headed for what was probably some serious danger. Thanks to the ticket agent, they were spared.

Denice Miracle was checking in a 17-year-old and 15-year-old girl. The girls approached the counter and were looking to board a flight to New York, for which they had a ticket.

They didn't have any form of acceptable identification, however.

Miracle’s internal alarms went off. She wondered where the adult was to check in these girls, but apparently, there were none.

She also wondered why they had such expensive tickets purchased by someone with a different name, yet that person didn’t even make sure the girls had the proper ID to board the plane. It didn’t make sense.

She noticed they were texting someone on the phone when she asked questions, and the person on the other end of the phone was feeding them answers to give the teens.

"It was a first-class ticket. It was very expensive. I told a supervisor, 'I'm going to call the sheriff. It just doesn't feel right to me,'" said Miracle.

Instead of helping them get on their flight, she called authorities. When the deputies arrived, they began questioning the girls about the trip to New York, and the teens confessed: they got the tickets from a man they met online.

The man, named ‘Drey’, started talking to them on Instagram and asked them if they wanted a modeling job in a video he was shooting. He offered to pay the girls $2,000 for the weekend and sent them two first-class tickets.

The girls were convinced it was a legitimate modeling job and lied to their parents about spending the weekend at a friend’s house. They set off on their own to meet Drey.

Deputies attempted to contact Drey. Not surprisingly, a short time later, the man disappeared off social media entirely.

"We attempted to look him up on Instagram," said Deputy Todd Sanderson. "Just a few minutes after our contact with him, he erased all of his profiles on social media."

The deputy said the girls just didn't seem to get that they were in real danger. "They were somewhat flippant about – 'No, that can't be true'," said Sanderson.

"No, the airline says you have a one-way ticket, and in my belief, you're going back there not to do the things that you think you were going to be doing," the deputy explained to them.

The two girls were shocked, but reality finally began to sink in. They said they didn't think anything would happen to them that they didn't want to happen.

"Well, you probably wouldn't have a choice in the matter," Sanderson explained to them.

The girls were very lucky that Miracle was there that day, and wasn’t looking to just rush the passengers through to their flights. The officers believe that the two girls were in real danger of becoming victims of human trafficking.
