News Anchor Loses Composure While On Air After Learning She Is Jobless

An Israeli news anchor was in the middle of a live broadcast when she was handed breaking news. Apparently, the show she was on had been canceled, and she was going to be out of a job. As she read the bulletin, she couldn't help but break down into tears.

It's never easy to find out you've been fired, and there's no gentle way to break the news to anyone. This is especially true if a person loves his or her job, and has struggled to win it. News presenter Geula Even was devastated to read a story about her own show being canceled while she was live on the air.

"Now we are getting breaking news. A statement in parliament," she said, taking the report into her hands.

“Actually tonight will be our last news program,” the stunned woman reported. She then told viewers that the Israeli government was 'shutting down' the state-run Israel Broadcasting Authority. The IBA is the organization that oversaw the program.

“This is our last edition. So the rest of this program is irrelevant," the newscaster said as the reality of the situation sank in. She had to fight back the tears. "I do want to thank all the people that worked here all these years. This has been my professional home for many years. I had many difficult moments here but a lot of great ones."

Though it was clearly a difficult thing to hear, Even carried on with grace to the best of her ability. Her first thought was of all her coworkers being out of work, and she took the opportunity to wish them well as the broadcast was still rolling.

“And at the end of the day a lot of people are going to lose their jobs," she said. "I hope they will find new jobs and public broadcasting continues to be strong even if it exists in a different format.”
