Boyfriend Texts Mom To Apologize For Hurting Daughter - Soon After, The Toddler's Dead

It's sick to think that there are people out there who would deliberately hurt a child, especially for entertainment purposes. When reports spread that a man had been arrested for killing his girlfriend's young daughter while demonstrating wrestling moves on her, they sparked outrage.

Even more shocking is the revelation that the mother forgave him, and was conspiring with him to cover up the signs of abuse.

Richard Gamache Jr. of Missouri performed wrestling moves on his girlfriend's 2-year-old daughter. The 24-year-old man performed several moves on the child, resulting in injuries, as well as a move known as the "Batista Bomb". This move involves picking someone up and throwing them down hard on the back.

Little Addie Cook began having seizures and was rushed to a hospital in St. Louis. Doctors tried to save the child. “They removed part of her skull to relieve pressure off of her. I didn't get to see her until four in the morning and it looked like she was in a bar fight from head to toe,” said step-grandfather Jim Boyce.

Police immediately suspected abuse and arrested Gamache. They also discovered that Addie's 19-year-old mother, Cheyenne Cook, was texting with Gamache after it happened.

Cook wasn't home when her daughter suffered the fatal blow, but she knew Gamache was abusive. Because she didn't want to give him up or lose custody of her daughter, she covered up for his abuse.

She never bothered to intervene or protect her daughter. Even as Addie lay there dying, she was willing to help her boyfriend cover his tracks yet again.

“There were photographs taken along with apologies and there was talk about how we can cover up the bruising," said Jefferson County Sheriff's Capt. Gary Higginbotham.

Police also report that digital evidence was discovered that showed abusive exchanges between Gamache and Cook.

The couple had only lived together for six days before the worst-case scenario occurred. Cook’s stepfather, Addie’s step-grandfather, feels he failed to protect the mother and child from an abusive relationship. He’s still stunned by the condition in which Addie was found.

“It's terrible. I just couldn't understand how somebody could do that to a 30-pound baby. I mean it looked like she got run over, that's how bad she looked.”

Gamache was charged with abuse and neglect of a child and is being held on a $500,000 cash-only bond. Cook was also arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child. She's being held on a $2,500 cash-only bond.

Pro wrestling is not a real combat sport; it's performance art. The dangerous moves are acrobatics that should only be executed by trained professionals.

World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. (WWE) put out a statement after news of the child's tragic fate made headlines. “We are deeply saddened by this tragic death and hope that the guilty parties are brought to justice. There is no excuse or justification for the brutal and ultimately fatal beating of a 2-year-old child by a grown man. This is a clear case of criminal intent and a lack of parental supervision,” the statement read.
