Bride Saw Her Groom Was Starting To Go Bald, Left Him At The Altar

You’ve probably heard of some runaway bride stories, with women leaving men at the altar after having second thoughts, or because she found out he’d been cheating with the maid of honor, or because her old flame came to her at the last-minute begging her to run away with him instead.

In India, one runaway bride skipped out on an arranged marriage for a much more superficial reason. The marriage had been planned for over a year, but when she finally got a look at the groom without his hat, she couldn’t go through with it.

The man's hair was beginning to thin, and the young woman couldn't deal with a bald husband. In the middle of the ceremony, she flat-out refused to continue.

The man didn't waste a lot of time grieving the break-up though; he married another woman two days later.

A doctor named Ravi Kumar was all set to meet his new bride for an arranged marriage. Dr. Kumar had met the woman's father on several occasions, but he never met the woman who was to be his wife until the ceremony was starting.

Kumar had travelled over 600 miles to get married. The wedding started off well.

Guests were enjoying a big feast and commencing with traditions, such as the ritual in which the bride and groom exchange garlands. The Dainik Bhaskar says that there was a 'happy atmosphere' that day.

The time came for the wedding party to hold a procession up to the pavilion, where the couple would take their vows and become man and wife. Kumar, as is customary, removed his ceremonial headpiece at this point.

When the hat came off, everything turned on a dime. The bride was completely shocked when she saw her groom was balding.

Right there and then, the bride put a stop to the ceremony. She refused to marry him, and the wedding spiraled into chaos.

Both families tried to reason with the bride, telling her the neurosurgeon was a good catch, but she simply refused. Apparently, when it comes to relationships, the unnamed woman drew the line at baldness.

Finally the party broke up, with no one able to convince the bride that beauty is only skin deep. Dr. Kumar found himself still a bachelor that night.

The next day, Kumar went to the village council for help. He was determined to find a wife and did not want to return home empty-handed.

The council didn’t know what to do at first, but after talking for a while, they came up with a solution. They told him that there was a poor vegetable seller's daughter, Neha Kumari, who was single and getting to the age of marriage. They suggested he marry her.

One woman appeared to be as good as the next to Dr. Kumar. He bounced back rather quickly from his previous rejection.

As for Kumari, coming out of an impoverished upbringing, marrying a doctor seemed like a great opportunity, even if he didn’t have all his hair.

Another wedding was quickly arranged, and the couple were married at a temple just two days later. All’s well that ends well.
