Conway Blasts Feminists Over Latest Attack On Melania

When President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump headed to Texas in the wake of Hurricane Harvey, many people focused on one odd detail about the FLOTUS. It seems that she was wearing stiletto heels. High heels are an odd choice for visiting a disaster area, many social media users and headlines pointed out. The president's counselor, Kellyanne Conway, was quick to schedule some interviews so that she could blast 'feminists' for criticizing Mrs. Trump.

President Trump's personal media pit bull, Kellyanne Conway, appeared on Fox News this weekend to rail against people who criticized Melania's wardrobe. When it comes to fashion, Mrs. Trump can apparently do no wrong.

“She can wear whatever she wants,” said Conway in an appearance on 'Fox & Friends' this Thursday.

Conway added that, even though Melania left the White House wearing stiletto heels, she had more appropriate footwear to change into on the flight. Even as displaced hurricane victims wondered what they were going to do, a large portion of the media and social media turned their attention to the First Lady's attire.

"Who Wears Stilettos to a Hurricane? Melania Trump," read an article by Vanity Fair.

The New York Times saw the shoe as 'a symbol for what many see as the disconnect between the Trump administration and reality'.

“Why, oh why, can’t this administration get anything, even a pair of shoes, right?” lamented Vogue.

“They [feminists] get upset if somebody says you’re wearing a pretty dress or calls you honey, but they have judgment end on end,” Conway ranted on Fox.

Not every liberal was on board with mocking Mrs. Trump. Trevor Noah, one of President Trump's staunchest critics, said on the Daily Show, "I don’t know why anyone should care what anyone wears when they’re on their way to help people."

The fact is, it's not like Mrs. Trump was going to be working in the trenches. The FLOTUS wasn't going to be fishing disaster victims off the top of their car out of flood zones or carrying children to safety through knee-high water. The first family was there to raise awareness, lend support and offer some much-needed comfort in the time of disaster.

Critics might have jumped the gun as well. When the President and his wife landed in Texas, Melania stepped off Air Force One in a pair of what looked like brand new white sneakers. Some say that this was just a fast and furious switch pulled at the last minute after Melania got criticism for wearing heels.

Conway says that feminists should show a little more respect for the former fashion model. "They should also know she speaks five languages, she’s brilliant, she’s incredibly savvy,” she said.

Even in the wake of the deadly storm, partisan politics seem to go on as usual. When you have millions of people on social media every day scrutinizing words and photos to find one thing to exploit, it’s not surprising that it comes down to nitpicking about shoes.
